Explicative
I suppose it's possible to go 10 days without food or water if you practice fasting for a long time, but there is no way he has done this for 66 years. Even if you dismiss the obvious reasons, note that the BBC article mentions a slight loss in weight over the 10-day period. If he really had been not eating or drinking his entire life, then it seems his body weight would have reached an equilibrium, in which case whey did he lose weight during this study? poind
It is plain-and-simple physically impossible (and I do mean to the point of physics, not just human body stuff) the guy has totally gone as claimed for decades, even if stuff like regular fasting can markedly slow down his metabolism and make it much easier to go 10 days without and such. Stick the guy under full observation/study in an "independent"/scientific hospital for a couple months, and he will not live with his claims, as much as him perhaps regularly fasting and how his body has adapted may be very medically insightful and worthy of study. DaCypher
Does the Law of Conservation of Energy come to mind to anyone else? Where does the energy come from that he uses to move, breath, beat his heart, etc without any food intake? If he is constantly expending energy without replenishing it via food/water then there is an imbalance of energy and this would suggest that the basic principles of physics that we trust today to be true and totally worthless... Quite. Even if he's just meditating every day, caused his metabolism to slow through fasting, etc., he cannot go for decades without input other than air and the water that sometimes falls upon him -- basic laws of physics are broken even if he just breathes, beats his heart, "thinks" and nothing else. For some reason I'm reminded of the Indian "gurus" who levitate solely with their hand rested on a simple rod, while the ignorant bystanders kind of miss that the rod actually extends up their sleeve, down their back, and ends up in a little seat they can "levitate" on indefinitely. Nothing that holds up to proper science in the slightest, but can superficially amaze people until proper study is done.
unimatrixzer0
Don?t scientists already theorize there is phenomenon in the universe that doesn?t abide by the basic law of physics? Don?t Black hole?s bend a few rules or something?
shaolinmonk
"I feel no need for food and water," says Mr Jani, who claims he was blessed by a goddess at the age of eight and has lived in caves ever since. on the rediff article didn't it say he was blessed at the age of 10? Destian
While I am very doubtful of this, I will not simply disregard it. I'd be curious to know how many of those who have posted thus far are of some judeo-christian denomination. Surviving for ten days with no food or water is alone quite an accomplishment. The news sources (bbc specifically) are obviously reputable, so if there is a whole in this it would need to be within the research clinic/hospital.
