IT'S a very beery Christmas at Mataranka Homestead as two great things come together for a creative purpose.

Bartender Kim Eishold, at the homestead 107km south of Katherine, decided to combine Christmas and XXXX and generate the festive spirit with a beer tree.

It is not her first, having created a VB tree last year - for 2013 she switched to XXXX in the hope it could win her a trip to XXXX Island.

"It took me two weeks; it wasn't meant to be so big, but I just kept going with it, I really want a trip to their island," she said.

The tree came together using 800 cans - Ms Eishold said she drank about a quarter herself - a ladder, milk crates, and plenty of glue and sticky tape.

"I collected cans for six weeks I had to train everyone to actually keep the cans and not just crush them like a lot of people do," she said.

"I even rang people to raid their wheely bins."

Ms Eishold, who is living at Mataranka for a year, was happy with the end result and being able to share it with friends and visitors.
