Steve
Ok, so now that I have one or two Live Enabled Games (notably PGR2 and MM3) and Counterstrike on the horizon, i am contemplating Xbox Live! I took a look over @ the Xbox.com/Live site, and read some FAQ's there. But it cannot really answer all my questions... I hope someone here can fill me in, on those. 1) If I use the 2 Month free trial that came with PGR2, what is going to happen after the period is over? Do microsoft write to you, to offer 'renewal' or 'cancellation' ? I read that they do this, if you bought the 12 month Starter Kit, and if you leave it, they charge you for another 12 months, if you don't respond to this 'request'. - How would they contact you? - How much would 12 months subscribtion there-after, be? ?40? 2) Connectivity... Ok, well obviously this will be hard for anyone to answer, because everyone's setup is different. My setup, is as follows: PowerMac G4 Cube (F**k it, my comp's in the Sig) I have a Hermstedt Webshuttle connected to it, via USB. This runs a 512/256 aDSL line, from Pipex (http://www.pipex.net). In The UK. How would the Xbox connect to it? Does it HAVE to? Cuz my Xbox tends to be far away from my Mac. Oh, and would a typical Twisted Pair ethernet cable do it? Thanks for ya time reading it, and if all comes good, maybe I'll be around, so you can KICK my ass, for making you read this, 'in the Live Arena'. LOL:laugh:: Cheers! ^^ Don't forget - I am in England! That tends to differentiate DSL, because ours run over PPPoA, as opposed to PPPoE.:
ZenPirate
All I can answer is that when you sign up for xbox live the user agreement informs you that after the free period is up your credit card will automatically be billed for continuing Live services, UNLESS you contact microsoft and cancel. So make sure you keep an eye on the date it will run out. BTW- I humbly request that you send me your Cube, it would be much happier at my house :D

I am not a Major Gamer, so I don't want to be paying for services I am not likely to use. Anyone ever cancelled Xbox Live? ... Can you do it online or something?! Cheers buddy! - And no, Ma Cube is staying put, thank ya :p
.KICK
It will run fine via ics from the mac, dosent matter if its pppoa or pppoa I have uk dsl over ics via the switch and its fine, I think after the 2 month trial up, you get the option to carry on and pay for a year or cancel it! Steve
Yea, I just heard that I simply wang a twisted pair cable from my Cube's NIC, to the Xbox, and enable Internet Sharing, and thats it. Seems too easy to be true?!!?

.KICK
i thought xbox live was free!? what happened Since when has it been free, you pay around $50 a year to use it, which is not a bad price really though I wish they would bring out more dedicated servers :(
.will
why whats wrong with the servers? (im not on live yet)
iraklis2000
nothing. The host uses his machine as the server. i think he wants the server to be a dedicated machine by MS, that way more people would play rather than the 8-16 more commonly available today. I don't have any lag with the current setup, and the number of players suits me just fine. For example PGR2 tracks are built for 2-8 players, anything over that would be over crowded. Yeah I mean that, they need to host dedicated servers for fps games etc, so we can have full 16 player and hopefully no lag for games like rtcw, rs3 etc :D. They did release some for Unreal Championship when it came out but about a month after it came out they got rid of them :(
Steve
Hey guys... Umm, problem! I've enabled internet sharing in System Prefs. Ummm, but I am kinda lost. In the past when sharing an internet connection over a LAN, i configured it manually using a standard IP / Subnet setting of 192.168.0.x / 255.255.255.0 I tried the same thing here, and it comes back to the SAME thing. The Xbox tells me the Cables ARE connected, and it scans for a connection, but thats as far as it gets, then after it has a little red error type symbol next to 'IP not confirmed'. I've included my DNS server IP addresses from my ISP (Pipex - UK). But thats about all. Can anybody help me?!
