Codecs compatible with uploading a video on Facebook?

Question

Hello,

I have a .AVI file which is 8GB in size which obviously is too large for Facebook. Im trying to compress it down but I cant seem a suitable video codec that is compatible.

I tried (Handbreak) MPEG-4 and AAC but AAC isnt being heard in WMP at least.

Now Im trying H.264 (I didnt like the quality MPEG-4 gave me) with MP3. Is this better?

I searched on Facebook and they only talk about containers (MP4, AVI, etc) not the codec that is compatible.

Thank you

Oops, just noticed your file is 8 GB! You will have to use a desktop program for that. Handbrake can easily handle it, just set the output format to Mp4.

You are not able to hear any audio in WMP because the requisite codecs are not installed on your system. Use a codec pack like CCCP.

And in Handbrake set the audio format to Mp3. Simplest and most compatible. 96 to 128 kbps should be more than enough.

Hello,

Could you just put it on YouTube and then share it on Facebook?

I dont have a YouTube account that I could upload to in conditions...Plus, I perfer to upload it to Facebook over YouTube...

YouTube's container page is worst than Facebook's

Supported YouTube file formats

Not sure which format to save your video? Receiving an "invalid file format error message when you're uploading"?

Make sure that you?re using one of the following formats:

?.MOV

?.MPEG4

?.AVI

?.WMV

?.MPEGPS

?.FLV

?3GPP

?WebM
