School shootings to becoming "Normal" in America?

Recommended Posts

Americans just don't value life very highly and there's not much that can be done about it. They'll defend the rights of foetuses but the caring ends the minute you're born.

Why even post that?

Why even post that?

Because, unfortunately, it's true. When your not killing each other you're bombing other people and it's not just a guns issue. Whether it's healthcare, labour laws, welfare or any other issue regarding people's lives Americans demonstrate time and time again that they just don't care.

Whenever there's a massacre in America the one thing you can guarantee is that Americans will display more sympathy for gun owners than they will for the dead. Sad but true.

Yeah, us Americans, all our hands are soaked in blood. We start killing people pretty much the same time we start reading and writing.

Do you really have any idea how much of a bitter old person you sound like when you start making such sweeping and not to mention wrong generalizations?

Generalizations happen for a reason, and sadly enough that's the way a lot of the world sees the USA.

I don't even want to get into the whole gun situation, but the fact that the 'Nr 1' country in the world still struggles with healthcare, education, .... says something.

The only thing you seem so care for in the USA is a perceived freedom of choice and no control from the government.

In Europe we don't mind some government control, they actually do care at least a bit for the people there.

Most of us manage to get through school and uni without ending up with a debt. Same for healthcare, most of us don't end up bankrupt after being seriously ill for a longer period of time. Our labour laws also protect us better and allow us to take a normal amount of time of

I'm confused what health care and education has to do with all Americans apparently being serial killers from the moment we take our first breaths.

And people from countries outside the US don't get why we couldn't care less about what they think of us. It's because what you think of us and the country is so wrong it's laughable.

Complete and utter nonsense.  If that is the way you see America then you are ill-informed and need to try and expand your knowledge.  If you are going to criticize at least have some in depth information to base your opinion on.  You, among others, come into these threads time and again to throw around your opinions about America and, time and again, demonstrate just how little you know.  And frankly you should be embarrassed of yourself.

In stead of insulting me, enlighten me.

I deal with people from the USA all the time for my job, and most of them don't have anything nice to say about their own country.

So what other sources do you want me to use?

You could try traveling in the States. You might be surprised at what you see and how few murders you witness.

But I guess that wouldn't do, according to others on neowin the US is a police state.

Their will be a day in America where most schools will have big fences and gates. They will look like prisons with medal detectors before you can enter the campus.  Sorta like going to an airport or to a prison and you will have to put your medla items like binders in a bin to go thru the scanner. Most bullies  of my time would bully with words or the occasional fight but never taking out guns.

I am glad I was a child of the 80s and 90s.

The kids still carry guns in school during those years you mentioned..

I saw a kid showing off to his friend with the gun ... it might be his dad's that he took it to school that his dad didn't know about. That he was standing about 2 ft away from me.

If it was me, I will make sure that my kids do not have guns or any other weapons on them before they get on the bus or dropping them off at school.

As you mentioned about schools with gates and fences,  Michael J Fox's old school in BTTF movie is already have the fenced/gate up. During the movie, that school didn't have the fences up.

No one is disputing the fact that they used to happen, surely everybody can see they are on the rise.

Yes the media have a lot more airtime to fill, it is partly because of this they are on the rise.

Attention is attention whether it is good or bad, some might call them unstable or give them some kind of psychiatric name but primarily they want attention and the media is giving them it.

They go from nobody to world-famous overnight.

The media need to stop making them famous.

its a little to harsh to think about so you attack his character

when it comes to helping your own citizens americans don't really measure up very well. an argument could be made that when it comes to helping people through government means americans don't care as much as other westernized countries.

I actually have been to the states a few times, and always had a wonderful time, once I got into the country. Getting in is still a PITA, just getting through customs and TSA is enough for most people to never want to set foot in the USA ever again.

I got my pessimistic view of the states mainly from the people that actually live there and complain to me when I meet them.

Insulting you?  If you think that was an insult then I doubt anything I can add will be of any help to you.  Find your own sources of information, you'll appreciate it more.  And find and use a broad variety of sources, try to get a balanced education about America.  Yes we have some very bad things happening here and we have some wonderful things.  Our broad range of freedoms and beliefs have a good side and a bad side.

So you let the very small minute, infinitesimally small minority of Americans that you have talked to decide for you what the rest of us are like? And that's okay?

The guy just got done calling all americans murderers. Why is it okay for him to do that but it's not okay for some one to call him out out on his judgement?

Oh.

Right.

It's okay to hate on Americans but we're not allowed to return the favor.

Like I said in the post above. My negative view is mainly formed by US citizens complaining to me. And I see a fair few passing by every year.

I have visited the USA a few times and loved it. People are friendly in general, beautiful nature, cheap (when I was still making Euros).

It's not like I've met 10 Americans and base my judgment on that. I work in the service industry and deal with Americans from all over the USA on a daily basis.

I've been doing this for about 8 years, so yeah, I do base by judgment on all these people that I met.

Now don't get me wrong on this one, I'm not saying that because I've met these people I have a negative view about Americans.

Most of the people from the USA I meet are lovely people, but a lot of them are not happy about the USA. And most of them always mention the same things that we in Europe find so strange about the USA, insane prices for healthcare/insurance, education, wars,...

I usually avoid the topic of guns because I know I have a fairly different view on that compared to most.

Okay, well, as long as you're aware that the US is home to over 300 million people and we have 11 states that are bigger than the entire United Kingdom. That's more than half the population of the entire EU and at least twice the size in land mass.

But yeah..sure. We can let those few people you've talked to represent us all.

There is a lot to complain about, there is no doubt about that.  And Americans work hard and do our best, we make mistakes, but we have also done and continue to do some good things.  Progress can seem to come slowly, if at all at times, but in spite of what some believe we are moving forward.
