BananaMan
I went down to my local EB today and I noticed something kind of funny. All the URU: Ages Beyond Myst boxes had their CD-keys printed on the front of the box! Thank god this isn't a MMORPG or any other multiplayer game that attaches your profile to your unique CD-key, but doesn't it still kind of defeat the purpose of uniquely generated CD-keys? I'm guessing this is a dumbass distributor issue rather than a problem with EB (as the home entertainment store nearby had the game with the cd-keys on the front as well), but still, wtf?

Chicane-UK Veteran Posted November 30, 2003 Veteran Share Posted November 30, 2003 Noticed this with Return to Castle Wolfenstein when it first came out. My local Blockbuster had all the cases on the shelf, and you could just open the box and the number was printed on the inside bottom of the case. So make a note of the key, download a copy, bingo. Now I know why most people put the codes on the back of the manual :)

Laughing-Man
Also if you are in EB check out their used PC games. Sometimes they put the cd-keys in plain view too because they usually just wrap up the jewel case and the instruction booklet in clear wrap. HellBender
LOL I like that quake cd key. But having the CD key on the outside doesn't really make a difference. You can go to walmart, rip open the box, copy down the CD, and walk out. Same thing.
Bizkit
Haha. Thats what I would do with their cheat code books!

I'd think they'd notice someone mangling their murchandise and scribbling down something on a notepad.
qoa
The Wal-Mart I work at has no Lost Prevention on hand. The closest thing is the 60 year old mildly retarded people greeters that check bags when the alarms go off.

MikeS2k
You just lost any respect I had for you (the person that took false credit) Are you two taking the **** or are you really just that stupid? And stealing a key might work for a few days, until someone goes out and actually buys the game (and gets the key banned by trying to use it online) Worth a try I suppose.. o_O

CrimsonBlur
Uh, where is this supposed "CD KEY" located on the outside of the box? I own the game, and it diesn't have the CD Key on the outside of the box. It's inside the manual, and it's blatantly obvious, and it's pretty long. To use the key to unlock Uru Live you have to go through an application process and validate the key and then get another one and sign up to the service and everything. Having it wouldn't really help you if you didn't own the game anyway, and the game requires you have the CD in at all times to play.
