Snowboarding:

Supreme Snowboarding (aka Boarder Zone)

ESPN X-Games Pro Boarder

Both should still be widely available on various budget brands.

The first one (not Boarder Zone I believe) needs to be patched to work under XP, and to do that you need to rename or delete the supreme.exe program file before running the patch or it won't be replaced. There's a patch at the creators' website, www.housemarque.com.

Paintball:

There should be some paintball mods for Halflife/CS or BF1942. Or Q3A...

Then there was Lemmings Paintball and Animaniacs Splatball, both of which take a top-down perspective (3/4 pseudo-3D in Lemmings Paintball). Both are sub-par, the only one I've seen in stores lately is Lemmings Paintball.

Are either of those two games like the SSX series? i.e tricks and stuff

Well, both games have a wealth of tricks available... Pro Boarder probably has the largets "library" of some 2000 special moves, and features real snowboarders (it is, after all, officially licensed by ESPN X-Games). But on the other hand it shows its age and looks like crap compared to Supreme Snowboarding (or Boarder Zone, depending on where you live). Boarder Zone has 10 licensed boards, but no real snowboarders. As one reviewer stated, Supreme Snowboarding is not a tricks game with races, it's a racing game with tricks (it doesn't have very many of them) but it does at least have Big Air and halfpipe compos in addition to races and time trials. It's best for its drop-dead gorgeous graphics (and with a little text file modifying, you can do the most awesome jumps and tricks), and a debug mode allows you to make your own tracks (though it's not easy and there are no tutorials, as the editor is made by and for the developers). As far as gameplay goes, I'd probably go for Pro Boarder. Check some reviews and make your choice...

(None of them are up to the likes of SSX, though, which is why we need SSX on the PC!)

By the way, I am currently making inquiries so as to get Transworld Snowboarding - the much more competent sequel to Supreme Snowboarding - ported to PC.

I'll just mention here that in my recent communication with the CEO of Housemarque (the guys behind TransWorld Snowboarding for XBox) dropped a hint that they will hopefully, if all goes well, release a new snowboarding game for PC next year, and if everything works out the way they plan, it will be Freeware. Yes, you read that right. He's promised to keep me up-to-date on the progress of that particular project, so I'll post updated info somewhere on this forum as it arrives...
