freak180
Was anyone aware of this?"As noted by Fansided, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer didn?t appear to have their instruments plugged in during the halftime show, which came during the most-watched television program of all time."http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/02/red-hot-chili-peppers-super-bowl-plug-instruments-flea/
The Evil Overlord
Thought lip syncing (or any variation of) wasn't allowed in live entertainment anymore...? (Unless someone modified it so the wireless pack was refitted inside or behind the guitar's main body, and hadn't bothered removing the jacks)

Art3x
The singing was real but the music was prerecorded. Same goes for Bruno Mars.
Astra.Xtreme
They don't really have time to soundcheck, so I'm sure only the drums and vocals were legit. My guess is that this was Flea's way to "secretly" troll.
Bryan R.
I hope there's an explanation... Otherwise it's another Super Bowl Halftime Show wasted on s**t.
PsYcHoKiLLa
Most of these shows are pre-recorded cos too many things can go wrong and if it does go wrong it's going to impact on the superbowl and the audience getting home at the alotted time, it also therefore impacts on the city which hosts the event. +Dick Montage, Gallifrey2 and +E.Worm Jimmy 3 Share

I wouldn't think an extra 10 or so minutes would grind the city to a halt anymore than the usual end of work gridlock, most cities handle that sort of traffic in their strides? Brendeth
I thought that the vocals were lip-synced aswell? I haven't actually watched the performance but that is what I was told.Either way regardless of "things going wrong", it's just ridiculous that a major band like the Chili Peppers aren't trusted enough to perform live, which is a little bit of a stretch because they don't have to do anything themselves that was stage crews and drum\guitar\bass techs are for. Shadrack
Thought lip syncing (or any variation of) wasn't allowed in live entertainment anymore...? (Unless someone modified it so the wireless pack was refitted inside or behind the guitar's main body, and hadn't bothered removing the jacks) I'm pretty sure lip syncing with music is still allowed in live entertainment. Pop stars feature their dancing more than their singing (obviously) and doing those dance moves while singing can be problematic for most. If it isn't allowed anymore, it would be news to me. Praetor
I'm pretty sure lip syncing with music is still allowed in live entertainment. (...) unfortunately it is, if not them how you guys think pop stars would dance non stop, perform and sing? Now i'm not saying they all do this, but for me at least it's pretty disgusting when i'm paying top euro to see a band or a musician performing live only to find out he/she/them are drunk, can't stand and still sing like nothing is going on (making lip syncing incredible obvious), which is an insult to anyone paying to see a LIVE concert. madd-hatter
"For the actual performance, Josh [Klinghoffer, guitar], Chad [smith, drums], and I were playing along with the prerecorded track so there was no need to plug in our guitars, so we did not," he wrote. "Could we have plugged them in and avoided bumming people out who have expressed disappointment that the instrumental track was pre recorded? Of course easily we could have and this would be a nonissue. We thought it better to not pretend. It seemed like the realest thing to do in the circumstance. It was like making a music video in front of a gazillion people, except with live vocals, and only one chance to rock it. Our only thought was to bring the spirit of who we are to the people." I never heard it wasn't allowed, just looked down upon. As for pop stars, I've seen a few dance and sing. Usher was on American Idol performing, it was terrible because you can hear he was definitely winded.
