answering the phone

Recommended Posts

My friend used to answer his phone (and our store phone after hours):

"Thank you for calling Marvin's Meat Market, where you can beat our meat but not our prices! Charlie speaking, may I take your order?"

At work: "Good [morning/afternoon] Reach, Nic Speaking"

My business phone: "Distinctive Nic Speaking"

General phone calls: "Hello"

Selected people: "Cardiff Hotel" | "Cardiff Police Station, sgt Nic speaking" | "Cardiff Mental Hospital"

Most the time 'Hello?'

mobile 'Yeah?'

try this for an answering machine

"Hello, who is this?...... Oh hey, how are ya? how have ya been?" then after about 10 seconds "Well sorry im not home, this is the answering machine..."

Try having your cell's voicemail sound like you actually answering the phone. Works on everyone at least once.

"Hey what's up?"

They keep talking and talking, and finally realize. It's great to playback. :D

A plain "hello". I once answered my cell phone with "Housekeeping" my mom did recognize my voice and appologized for the mix up. she called back and i answered with me laughing like crazy on the other end.

lol, one time i answered the phone to my aunt.. "hello, you have reached my voice mail. leave a message." and then i couldnt fake a real beep so i stuttered for a couple of seconds before saying "beeeep".

I totally cracked up when she fell for it and started saying "hi, i was just calling to see where you guys were.."

i've done something similar to that for my voicemail. fooled quite a few people. i would just say something like "hello? hello? oh hey."

I answer the phone with:

"słucham" (polish)

On the answering machine I recorded:

"I'm sorry, but Alex's answering machine is broken at the moment, I'm his refrigerator. If you speak slowly and clearly, I'll write your message down and place it on my door".
