eBay scams - selling info

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I've seen a bunch of ebay auctions that claim to be selling info about where to get a Gamecube for $20/where to get a radeon for free/etc.

Clearly they are scams or tricks.. But I'm curious. Does anyone know what they'll tell you after you buy it? Would it be something like "sell so-and-so number of our products and we'll give you a radeon for free" or something? I'm curious.

Example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...&category=40158

heh...cheap scheme to rob you of your money. They even posted the entire content as an image in order to hide from ebay's scanning techniques to remove scams like this..

they tell you how to basically request a demo unit from the manufacturer for a store that you frauduently create, and also claim to be considering ordering a large quantity of whatever item it is you want a demo unit of. this grabs their attention and sometimes you get the item, sometimes you dont. it is illegal what they are suggesting you do in the thing that you "win" and such auctions should be shut down. there is more info about this... just google it.

im having a tough time on google finding this info at the moment, but if someone does find it, post the link here... i know its out there somewhere. it breaks down everything that they tell you and shows how illegal it is and all the laws it breaks.

edit...

just remembered its called a pyramid scam. it sounds all good at first like it just might work, but most manufacturers have gotten used to the number of "demo requests" that average joes are sending in that they just ignore the ones that sound so fake.

Ah, I see.. Pyramid scheme, eh. I'll go look that up. Thanks :)

On an unrelated side note.. Where can I buy OEM software for a good price? (other than ebay :p)

Man, six people actually bought it from that guy. I feel SO sorry for people who buy junk like OpenOffice and Linux and boot CD's on ebay for like $7 each when they're all available for free.

Already touched upon, but not a pyramid scheme, most likely.

Most likely involves (fraudulently) posing as a reviewer, industry insider, etc. somewhere whereby demo things are often given out and so on.

Sort of like telling someone how to pose as "press" to get into a concert or get free copies of CD's, but can backfire in a *huge* way.

Don't touch it.

nah ...i bought one of these for fun just to have a look, it was a scheme where i would sell so many of a selection of avaible products and then after selling so many i would be offered to buy various things from the company which i was selling it for...so...i think the thing they offered was a little 42inch plasma for 100$ which you would get only after selling a freaking ton of the items they had availbe
