Searching the boards

Recommended Posts

Is anyone trying to make searching the boards more google-like? If I search for "sticky notes" in quotation marks, there are no results found.

If I search for sticky notes without quoation marks, I get results that have the word sticky, but not notes. Or I get results that have the word notes, but nothing about them being sticky.

I also tried searching with the word AND between sticky AND notes. Still, some results have nothing about the word NOTES.

When I put multiple words in the search box, it should NARROW the search results, not expand them.

Search for sticky: 3 pages of results

Search for notes: 4 pages of results

Search for sticky notes.... SIX pages of results.

This makes searching the boards very difficult. I just want to find a good free sticky notes program that uses global hotkeys.

This also causes frustration among other members (read: MxxCon) when people DO search, but can't find the results because the searches include WAY TOO MUCH info that's not what they're looking for.

Search needs to be fixed. I realize this isn't a Neowin.net thing and more of an IPB thing, but I was just wondering if anyone was actually doing something about it...

OK... I searched there for sticky notes

And got this as one of the results:

https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=...dpost&p=1422852

I see a stick, but no "sticky" on that page whatsoever.

Does the search engine think "I know what you really mean you idiot. You spelled 'stick' wrong." ???

I don't understand. If you put in a bunch of words, you would expect to find less results.

Searching in "Software Discussion and Assistance"

sticky notes: 239 results

sticky notes windows: 6994

I want to find threads or posts that contain ALL of the words I'm looking for (not necessarily in the same order) like Google does. When you add words to a Google search, you get fewer results, which makes finding the right page easier.

That's what I really want. I'm just curious why it doesn't already work that way. It looks for each word separately instead of all of them. I want it to use AND, not OR.
