MariosX
Hello! If it is in the wrong section, please move it. I have a new laptop (Toshiba L850-1MK PSKG8E) and in it's BIOS it has a setting called "Boot Mode" with the options: UEFI Boot and CSM Boot and there is also the Secure Boot setting. and I would like to know: 1) What are the differences between UEFI boot and CSM Boot? I know these options have to do with Windows 8.1 Security 2) Can I use UEFI boot and multiboot Windows 8.1 and Linux Mint 16 Petra? 3) Is it better using CSM boot or UEFI mode for Windows 8.1? 4) Which is better MBR or GPT? Thanks a lot
Top Qat
CSM Boot = Old style BIOS boot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface For Win 8.1 use UEFI and GPT. Not sure about the dual booting with Mint. You should check the Mint FAQ/Manual for compatibility information.
