What happened to objectdock thread?

As far as Apple goes, they already know about it, I know this for sure.

And as far as distribution goes:

1) It's beta, not even beta, it's alpha, so you can throw it anywhere you want.

2) The goods have been spread :rambo:

It's more of a moral issue considering that heh people from wincustomize (not naming names) get all in a lather about people making sure they have permission from skinners before porting wb themes, then they don't even get Apples permission before they go taking one of the main GUI elements of OSX and essentially "porting" it.
Kinda smacks of hypocracy to me.

That Apple hasn't given permission is not exactly correct. What they have given is emails to members of AquaSoft saying they do not have a problem with artists copying the elements of the Aqua interface as long as all they maintain the integrity of the design and give proper credit to Apple.

It seems Apple had a problem with people issuing copies of the Aqua interface before the release of OSX. They were consistant in asking people to remove the Aqua likeness in both the PC & Mac communities. They have not done this to my knowledge since the gold release of OSX. I actually believe Apple enjoys the free advertising for their latest OS. I can tell you many visitors to AquaSoft have purchased Macs in the past year because of Aqua skinning.

Apple also has a BIG problem with people ripping any of their properties for profit. I would too if I was an Apple employee or executive.

I use Aqua based icons created by Mac artists, with permission. Whenever I replicate an element of the Aqua interface, I am exacting in terms of quality (my sh** looks GOOD!). And I always list, trademarks, copyrights, and ownership of any images I use.

There is a huge difference in what 'Aqua Skinners' do and what was done with the Object Dock. I wish people could see that difference.

You're kinda stretching Deadzombie. You know apple isn't going to like this. I mean Starpuke even used apple icons in the program itself...pretty stupid. And I totally agree that if Brad didn't want Apple to get all ****y about it, he shouldn't have posted screenies on the damn thing to begin with...again, stupid. All in all this thing is out there now, running like crap, but it is a Starpuke product so can't expect much more. Kinda cool to play with for about 30 seconds, then it's old news. Hopefully Apple gets a wild hair up their ass and sues the pants off of Brad...or at least make him stew about it for a while.

dude, where do you see me saying anything about aqua skinners? BTW that bit about apple having a prob with people ripping off their properties for profit is exactly what I am talking about because as I see it, Stardock basically doing that by pushing the fact that you can buy their programs and make your computer look like aqua.

And yes they have done exactly that cos if you look under the wb forum under "for fanatics of aqua" thats exactly what that thread is about.

  • 2 weeks later...

i downloaded an app from aqua-soft called aquadock 1.0. it' s not there anymore but it looked a lot like the leaked stardock app. it was buggy and looked like crap. i seriously don't think it was the same app. was obviously beta and a work in progress so other than the novelty of getting to try something like this out and being able to playa round w/it i can't see someone wanting to use it on a regular basis.
