Windows 8.1 Update 1 High Disk Usage

Recommended Posts

has anyone else noticed SVCHhost has really high usage periodically and causes system hangs? I can't peg it down I have done a test with 8 8.1 and 8.1 U1 and after I install the update it starts acting up any ideas?

I have been having an issue on my laptop since the update as well that the computer will just sit there idle with 100% disk usage and its not doing anything but when i try to load an app it runs just fine.

It's possible you picked up some Malware by downloading an unofficial update from a unknown source for Windows 8.1 U1. Don't rely on current malware detection program to pick it up. You have most likely already transferred all your passwords, mail, contacts, and all the naked pictures of your significant other to some rather dubious characters.

Here is a picture. and it just sits here and thrashes the Disk and hangs I would ask Microsoft but this update is unsupported at this time :/

Use process explorer or kill the services listed there one by one and see if it stops :p

Killing off services in Windows is not major concern. Biggest risk is being forced into a reboot.

How big was it and how much RAM do you have?  I have 16GB RAM and keep a small 2GB pagefile around.

I have 2 GB Ram And it was a system managed page file so it's 1088MB unfortunately though because of my lack of Ram I had to turn it back on :/ so hopefully it's a bug that gets patched

I believe I'm having the same issue. Here is a picture of what my task manager is showing. Any help is appreciated.
