Sony should stop with adding **** to their console and make it a console that won't **** up after a certain while. A lot of people are having to have their PlayStation 2 repaired because it will not read DVDs and a lot of people complain about when standing their PlayStation 2 vertical, it scratches the game discs. I'm just tired of Sony.

uhh... you dont have to buy it, you know

Unfortunately, Sony has stated that one of thier major pushes to recover losses from last quarter is to introduce more intigrated gear

You know a laptop w/ a camera, laser pointer, dvd burner, PS2 controller slot, universal remote and memorystick toothbrush adapter

What it really means is that they are looking for any excuse not to drop thier pricing... PS2 is cool and all but it's been out along time - where's the price break? Besides there was a time there were they dominated the market but this lame pricing and the fact that it takes them a thousand years to put out a new system is letting XBox and GameCube get stronger and stronger followings...

Pricing is only part of the issue, and a small part at that, I'd think. They'll make a crapload of money without making excuses to keep the price up, but I'm sure it's part of their tactics to make it look like more bang for your buck. I am betting that the PS3 will use Blue Ray disc technology, which Sony and others are trying to push on the DVD Forum right now. They are going to develop the technology on their own if the DVD forum approves HD-DVD over Blue Ray. This means they won't have the backing of many major companies. I believe they push for the PS3 to be multi-functional so they can push their other products using similar technology. I bet they are going to use Blue Ray in the PS3 to eventually boost the sales of Blue Ray media (outside of PS3 games). I could be wrong, maybe they won't use Blue Ray for the PS3, but I would not be surprised.

Sure it's real! Did I mention I also believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny? heh heh

You're forgetting about the tooth fairy too, I believe in her, as a few weeks ago I slept with my head under the pillow, and when I woke up in the morning all my teeth had gone

Does anyone else think Sony should make the PS3 (lousy name by the way) more a gaming console and less a multi-functional unit? I mean, the whole reason Nintendo is able to drop it's product price to $99 is because they designed a system specifically for gaming - no DVD, CDs, etc. Granted, the PS2 was a big step in the DVD market, but by the time this PS3 comes out, damn near everyone will already have some form of DVD player. And, in theory, if they design it to just be a gaming system, it might cut the cost down by $50 or so, which was a reason Nintendo was able to cut their price of the GameCube to $99.

We'll see, I guess. Everything is just pure speculation at this point.

Ummmmm no. The reason why Nintendo was able to drop their prices to $99 was because they were getting their ass's handed to them by Sony and Microsoft. No one now a days wants a GameCube. Its not a hot item like PS2 or XBOX.

Seriously, what a bunch of babys in this topic. God, do you guys need your diapers changed? All im hearing are a bunch of lil boys who are upset because Sony ended up taking the spot light away from their systems. Someone also said Sony takes forever to bring out their next gen systems. Dude, the normal life span of a system is 4-5 years until the next replacement is due. So get off their back. Didnt PS2 come out in fall of 00? With Micro. and Nin. trailing behind a year. If anything, Sony has and advantage here. They have had more time to work on their next system than Micro. and Nin have. And its even been said, when Sony whips out a release date, expect Micro. and Nin to follow. Because they know they cant let Sony get another year leap ahead of them again. And who cares if Sony doesnt drop their prices? Obviously people are still buying them at a decent rate. Why cut costs? Arent they like $175 or $199 now? They already dropped 100 bucks when Gamecube dropped to $99. As far as the PS2's breaking, that is up in the air. It all matters on how you treat your machine.

About the DVD player thing... if you're gonna use a DVD-ROM drive, why wouldn't you add DVD Playback support? I mean, is there something wrong with that? I don't see why people are whining over that. Although I will admit the DVD playback on the PS2 pretty much sucks compared to my XBOX and DVD Player (I have PS2, XBOX, & PC, so I'm not partial to any one), I still don't see the problem. Nobody's stopping you from getting a dedicated DVD player or anything, you don't have to use it's functions, it's just in there because not everyone has a DVD player like a few of my friends, they use their PS2's as DVD players because they probably wouldn't have one any other way. They're not poor, but the PS2 can provide two functions, it's logical to just use the one that works.
