Problem Installing Windows On PC(Win7/8)

Recommended Posts

Ok, long story short...My parents old computer was running slow..they said chrome was running slow, aol, firefox, bla bla bla...so they wanted me to do a factory restore on it. So I started it late at night around like 11pm..and it said it was gonna take a while so I'm like ok, I'll let it run and check it in the morning..The morning comes and its only at like 45% and it says 330 some minutes remaining so I said ###### it..I'll just reinstall windows and I powered the computer down, put the windows disc in...let it install do it's thing, and after it was done and restarted I took the disc out of the drive and while the computer was loading..it was saying please insert proper boot media or whatever...so I put it back in, tried installing it again and now I'm getting this message... "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." so I checked all that and it is..and then I even tried installing windows 8 and I'm getting this same message over and over again..(see pics below) and I don't know what else to do. Any help is appreciated. Thanks...

Restore the BIOS to default settings and restart. Eventually try to re-seat the HDD if possible, search for any BIOS updates, check cables or remove the battery.

Give the HDD a different boot priority and when you reach the windows installation page try to remove your disk and reformat.

Goodluck!

I've already restored the BIOS to default settings and restarted, then tried to install windows after I did that and I was still getting that message. Should I still go ahead and try to re-seat the HDD and check the cables and so on? and what do you mean remove the battery?...and about giving the HDD a different boot priority...isn't it already set to be first in the boot order?.

Hi the possible reason why your installation is failing is, because you have ACHI enabled on your SATA controller in BIOS and the windows disc your using doesn't have the drivers... to fix you will either have to change the setting to IDE or install the drivers by selecting load driver in the advanced install menu... once selected should get an explorer style window remove windows CD-USB disc and put in Mainboard driver CD or USB drive which has the drivers downloaded to and browse for SATA ACHI DRIVERS... and then follow the instructions which are given by the windows installer

Check your cables before swimming on Star-Pirate's note. Try to move your HDD on a different SATA port , switch cables . Removing the battery on your motherboard should be your last option to consider.

I observed your boot sequence is okay but you could try a different order . Set the HDD on 3rd Boot Device and the CDROM on the second.
