ACTIONpack
So I'm really happen the start menu is returning. Don't understand why they think people will jump to touch over a mouse on a desktop. Anyway I thought 8.1 already came out for Windows. I'm I using a non release of 8.1 or is there an update to 8.1.
+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted April 7, 2014 Subscriber² Share Posted April 7, 2014 Windows 8.1 is the current version of Windows. Windows 8.1 Update 1 will be released tomorrow, April 8th 2014. It does not come with the start menu. Windows 8.1 Update 2 or 8.2 or whatever MS marketing decides to call it will come out at a later date (before the end of the year 2014 I'd guess) and include the start menu. LeWonder
It's funny what a naming mess Microsoft did just by calling Windows 6.3.9600 as "Windows 8.1" instead of "Windows 9". So now almost everyone think it is an update to "Windows 8" (6.2.9200) but is not - it is a distinct SKU. Considering Start menu, it seems that it should come as an update to Windows 8.1 some time later. If you did not block installing updates on your Windows 8.1 they will come eventually without any additional actions required (just like "Update 1" will come tomorrow).
