+InsaneNutter MVC Posted April 10, 2014 MVC Share Posted April 10, 2014 As Windows XP is the talk of the internet at the moment I thought it might be interesting to see how old some of the Windows XP installs still about today are. At work we still have a couple of Dell Dimension 8300's in use that are about to be replaced with new Windows 8.1 machines. The Windows XP installs on these PC's is 10 years, 6 months, 4 weeks and 1 day old: For machines used daily for the last 10+ years I think its safe to say they have stood the test of time.Does anyone else have any old Windows XP installs around? Max Norris
Impossible for me to check anymore, my oldest would have been my old system from back in the day. (Long since rebuilt, reformatted, etc.) As a guesstimate, that one had 5 or 6 years on it. Ran as well as XP did at day 1, never bought into that Winrot nonsense. Was also rebuilt back then so had a fresh install to go with it. Had a couple Server 2003 machines back then as well that had some years on it.. also long since upgraded/replaced. Only system with XP left on it is a tablet, but that's been "recently" installed a year or two ago, toyed with Linux on it, didn't work out too well and reinstalled. DoDonpachi
I have Windows XP installed on my HTPC, that XP install is from 2006 so will be over 8 years old. The PC's behind my router and the only thing it does is boot XBMC on start up, so it's hard to justify buying a newer version of Windows for that. I'll probably try and get XBMCbuntu installed at some point just so i can keep running the latest version of XBMC.
