Neowin.net Is Very Different

Recommended Posts

I was a fast learner when I finally took the plunge and bought my

first PC several years ago. Since then I've participated in many

computer help forums. As my skill level increased I would only

post a question when I was really stuck and could not resolve

the problem myself. I'm only guessing, but I bet a lot of you

have followed a similar pattern over the course of your computing

life.

It becomes very tiresome seeing the same questions asked and answered

over and over again. "Why does my OS hangup when I run defrag or

scandisk", or another oldie but goodie, "how do I disable apps that run

at startup", etc. Meanwhile, any problem that is beyond the newbie

level usually gets ignored, even on the heavyweight Q & A sites like

ZDNET or CNET.

I just found out about about Neowin after reading an article in PC Today

magazine. The article was very positive about Neowin. I've read

a zillion articles praising varies websites.

Hurting101 just gave me a batch file script that I didn't think could be

created, even though I tried several times to create such a script

myself. I don't know how much time I spent using Google searching

for an answer.

There is something very unique about Neowin Forums. I don't know

why so many smart people have ended up at this one place. Even

more amazing is their willingness, even eagerness to help others.

Maybe the answer can be found if you remember when that

incredibly odd sounding website called "Google" first appeared.

Before Google, you could type "african elephants" in the query

box of most other search engines and get a listing a GM autos

sold in Africa! Google worked. It worked amazingly well, in

fact. It's become so dominant that the US government now

monitors most of the traffic passing through the vast array of

Google servers.

Anyway, is Neowin destined to become the "Google" of Windows

help forums. Only time will tell, I'm sure. From what I've seen

so far, it has a good chance.

Nutshell, welcome to Neowin.:)

In a Nutshell(pardon the pun), it is always the best forum and always will be. I wish we could find out how many people joined Neowin after the PC Today article. It would be amazing to note that a lot of them have joined so that they can know the answer to the questions that are plaguing their computer.
