Free Foxtel days over?

Recommended Posts

Before I start, I'll mention that Foxtel, Austar, and OptusVision are pay TV services in Australia.

A lot of people I know have been enjoying free Foxtel via the use of pirate cards which you insert into your decoder.

Upon inserting the smart card (which usually sells for under $100) you get free Foxtel, Austar and OptusVision. Of course this only works for satelite TV, I dont know if you can do this with cable TV or not.

I think that last figures showed that over 75% of Satelite Pay TV subscribers use the illegal card to get free access.

Well this seems to have all changed. Apparently now if you have an illegal card, your service no longer functions. Instead you get a message about a service "upgrade" set to revolutionise their broardcast system.

They do admit quite clearly in this message that the purpose of this upgrade is to stop illegal cards from working and from now on any illegal card will not work. Your decoder will have frequent software updates designed to stop illegal cards from being compatable.

For the record I dont have Foxtel myself, I cant afford to get it set up, and they seem to lack quality progaming anyways. I do know people with it, and I have seen this broardcast message myself.

This is a nice XMAS present for people with fake cards, and now I wonder how long it will take for pirates to beat this new system.

In a way I suppose that considering the large volume of people using these cards, somthing had to be done, because they must have been loosing so much money from free loaders and pirates. I suppose now with the extra revenue that Fox, and other networks are recieveing they should now be able to come up with some quality programing which will make the service actually worth paying for.

Bwahahahahahahaha. That is the best thing I have heard all day. "Quality Programming?". No chance.

Wouldnt have a clue, but to be honest, since Australia is so far behind with TV technology I wouldnt be supprised if they implimented this anti-piracy stuff in the UK years ago.

Remember this isnt for Cable, and Digital airwave TV, its for One Way Satelite.

For the record, I dont condone using these cards but who can blame people for using them, because the pay TV service is hardly worth $60 to $90 per month. Total rip off, they wouldnt have such a big piracy problem if they simply made the price much lower and had less re-runs.
