Good pedals?

This thread sunk like a stone in the hardware hangout so I think I must have posted it were it was viewed by the wrong type of person, so here goes again...

As I'm getting a Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar for Christmas, I figure I may as well get some ruddar pedals to complete the look. I've no idea what to look for when it comes to these except that it should use a gameport, not USB. This is because the Cougar has a gameport on it for pedals which will enable them to act as one unit rather than Windows seeing them as two, which can be problematic.

I don't know much about them but I can make a few guesses. Two pedals looks like the normal so I guess that's what I'll be getting like it or not. What sort of axes do these offer? I've looked at quite a few different ones and they have all sorts of strange slide, toe break, yaw and such like. WTF are these, and any others that could exist? I'd want the usual press down at the toe axes (that is the usual, right?), I don't know if there are others I should have? I presume these axes will have a good range of positions (like most joysticks have 256), right?

I'm entirely open to suggestions as long as they're available in the UK (if you don't know, post away and I'll hunt). The budget is pretty open - there's no point in spending ?15 when I have a ?200 joystick but I'd think twice or thrice before spending over ?100, although I would consider it.
