The Xbox One Dashboard, Beautified

Wouldn't it be cool if we could customize the Xbox One with this much ease?

Unfortunately, this video mock-up by PrimeGhost Gaming isn't real?it's just a concept. But if the Xbox One does ever implement something like themes, I hope it takes some cues from this. Being able to dictate the color of the widgets on my Xbox One isn't enough!

Yes, when are wallpapers coming? They're supposed to be on Windows Phone 8.1 and whatever the recently updated Windows 8.1 itself is called these days :D

So they should be on X1 as well!

Well one of the advantages to the X1 running the same core of windows is that they could easily bring features from the pc or phone to the X1.

MS has made it clear lately that the long term plan is to keep all of their devices on the same core while features will be shared among them as appropriate. Cortana will arrive on the X1 in due time, along with updates to the core of the OS to bring it up to Windows 8.1 Update 1 (its currently still running standard 8.0)

So something like the background image for WP 8.1 and translucent tiles could definitely show up on the X1. MS seem to be trying to aggressively push updates to the X1, so there is enough reason to be hopeful that you will see them evolve the experience a lot over the course of this year.

They do have priorities though, stuff I personally want to see done before they spend more time on UI customization. Things like:

1. Full external drive support

2. Full dlna support (that also means an app that can play back local music/video/etc either plugged into the console or via a network)

3. A proper notification center (maybe bring over the Action Center from WP 8.1 with some modifications)

We might have to wait until Xbox One.1 for the backgrounds to be used.

As long as MS sticks to a monthly update schedule it won't take long, they're adding in things that people want and I have no doubt backgrounds is on the list and so on.     Speaking of, anyone in the preview hear anything about May?  Or are they going to skip May at this rate and wait for June to release something bigger?

That's how the Xbox One dashboard should have been from day one, whatever we have currently is dull, lifeless and boring...

The Xbox 360 dashboard looked amazing from day one, plus supported changing colours / themes on it:

I got my 360 after the dashboard was re-designed. I loved the look / design / functionality of the old blade interface.

very nice concept design from the team - but the original interface is unforgettable (of course)

It's unforgettable but let's leave it in the past. I for one really welcome our new Windows 8-derived overlord, I mean UI. Kidding aside, really like it and have no problem with it. Have a problem with functions that have gone missing, like routing voice chat (other people) through TV speakers/headphones. 360 could do it, why can't X1?

I agree, tbh im pleased overall with how Microsoft have turned all their products into 1 style. This maintains a standard across the board that is user friendly, and stylish.

The Xbox One's dashboard is very very nice - and it will be interesting to see their development on it in the future.

Backgrounds will be nice when it's added eventually. I'd rather have full DNLA support, background music & automatic app updates

This is nice, and would look lovely if you could add your own customer wallpapers etc however I would rather MS focued on the important useablility of the Xbox first :)

It's a very lively and deep interface for a console, of course there are glitches to work out but that must be a side effect of the complexity I imagine. PS4 UI is also excellent, but much simpler and practical. Therefore it tends to work smoother - there's always a trade off I suppose.
