amoeba
My friend owns an older (think 500MHz) G3 iBook. He went down to an Apple AR store purchased an adapter to connect his iBook to his TV via S-Video. The adapter plugs into the small display port on the left side of the iBook that usually is meant to export to VGA. When I first hooked it up I just plugged everything in (iBook > Adapter > S-Video Cable > TV's S-Video Port) and changed the TV to S-Video but nothing appeared on screen (just blue like "no-input yet"). I Googled the problem and found out that I should unplug everything and power everything off. I reconnected everything like this: iBook to Adapter to S-Video Cable to TV's S-Video Port. I then turned the iBook on and then the TV. I cannot get OSX to "Detect Displays" and find the TV via S-Video. I've used Apple's help and I haven't gotten any results. Any ideas how I can get my friend's iBook to output video to his TV via an S-Video adapter? Thanks in advance! -amoeba

NeoMayhem
It works great on my 900mhz iBook G3, when I plug in the adapter, it shows up on the TV :p When you first plug in the adapter, does the screen on the iBook fade out and then back in? If not, the iBook probably isnt seeing the adpater, so the VGA port is dead :( This is OS X right?

Does the Detect Displays button not show up or can you not get it to show up? If the first - Your video card doesn't support it. If the latter - One of the connections is bad (hopefully not your VGA port but probably so).

The button can be clicked, it goes through the routine to check for new displays and nothing changes (no new displays found).
greend139
actually for the older 500mhz models i believe that the tv out works through the headphones output jack, if you go to radioshack, or maybe even compusa has it, get an 1/8 inch 4 conductor cable, that goes to red white and yellow rca jacks. Give that a try, it works on my friends 600 mhz.
