Jeremy Clarkson 'begs forgiveness' over N-word footage

Recommended Posts

Even after watching the video I can't even hear the word, he just mumbled something that sounded "Nuhh huh"

Its only because they know the rhyme used to contain the word, I think its so mumbled he could rightfully claim he never even said it.

It's because he intentionally mumbled the word to create this very controversy. In show business, the only bad attention is no attention.

No, he mumbled to try and AVOID this controversy..

When he reviewed the tape, they say it could still be seen as wrong, so they re-shot it, and NEVER aired the original. He did NOTHING to try and create this, and did everything to try and avoid it. Too bad someone on the production staff sold a copy to The Mirror, and they went nuts over it cause they have a hardon to trying to get him fired.

I call BS. That makes absolutely no sense. If it doesn't make senses it's most likely not true. If you reviewed it and were worried about controversy, you would have stuck with what the "nursery" rhyme actually is, or you would have replaced it with something non-controversial. You would not reshoot it and clearly insert an inaudible word that clearly starts with N and clearly could be taken as saying n****r under your breath.

it's a safe bet since the majority could care less or will defend his right to say it, regardless of his intent. It's a stupid publicity stunt that appears to be backfiring because most of the world is tried of this ####, for real or for publicity.

It makes perfect sense.. you just have already made up your mind..

I don't hear him saying it in the video, neither do most people who have listened to it.. you have to WANT to hear it.

Also, call BS all you want, it's what happened.. it never aired, and the scene was reshot.

And why is it a PR stunt ? Top Gear's ratings are just fine. It's a tabloid getting a piece of tape, telling people what they think it says, so people hear it. It's what tabloids do, make ###### up, take stuff out of context, misrepresent events, etc.

Or was it the production staff? This happened over TWO YEARS ago...  More likely it was some nosey reporter snooping around in the old show rushes to see what he could dig up.

Personally, if I were Clarkson, I'd have just said "Anyone who thinks I said that word, when you can clearly hear for yourself that I didn't, is a bloody idiot."  Alas, it's plain to see that the beeb forced him to apologise for something he didn't do in the first place, because they're so goddamn terrified of anything even remotely approaching racism.

You need to remember it was just a few weeks ago they also made a roar over him Saying Slopes.. which is apparently a term for Asians, while point at a bridge that they were building that was SLOPING to one side..

They were looking for anything.. and no doubt someone said "Hey.. I remember something from back a while ago.. I bet I can get this months car payment covered if I pass over a copy of the footage.." and they did..

Jeremy Clarkson given final warning by the BBC
Top Gear presenter says in his Sun column that he will be sacked if he makes another offensive remark

The BBC have put Jeremy Clarkson on his final warning following a racism row, the Top Gear presenter has said.

Clarkson admitted he will be ousted by the broadcaster if he makes another offensive remark, after claims he used the n-word while reciting the nursery rhyme Eeny, Meeny, Miny Moe during filming of the BBC2 programme.

Writing in his weekly Sun column the presenter also attacked the BBC for urging him to apologise over the footage, complaining he could not say sorry for something he had not done.

He said: "I've been told by the BBC that if I make one more offensive remark, anywhere, at any time, I will be sacked.

"And even the angel Gabriel would struggle to survive with that hanging over his head. It's inevitable that one day, someone, somewhere will say that I've offended them, and that will be that."

Speaking about the BBC's 'plan' for him to apologise, he added: "But saying sorry for using the most racist word of them all and hoping the story would die down as a result?

"...It's something I hadn't done."

The star became embroiled in controversy after the Daily Mirror saw unaired footage of him using the nursery rhyme to compare two sports cars and claims the word n***** can be heard.

Clarkson said he "mumbled where the offensive word would normally occur" in two takes, and used the word "teacher" in its place in a third.

It comes after deputy Labour leader Harriet Harman called for the BBC to sack the presenter.

In a Twitter post Ms Harman said: "Anybody who uses the N-word in public or private in whatever context has no place in the British Broadcasting Corporation."

But Education Secretary Michael Gove urged the corporation not to axe Clarkson because he had been "clear in his apology".

In a video posted online, Clarkson said he "did everything in my power to not use that word" and was now "begging your forgiveness for the fact that obviously my efforts weren't quite good enough".

Asked if the PM shared his cabinet colleague's opinion, Mr Cameron's official spokesman said: "He does share the Education Secretary's view: it is absolutely right that there has been an apology."

Pressed on whether he also shared the view he should keep his job, he replied: "His view is that in terms of actions and the like, that's for the BBC."

In the video post on social media, a solemn-looking Clarkson said: "I was mortified by this, horrified. It is a word I loathe."

The BBC said it had "left him in no doubt about how seriously we view this".

Clarkson had earlier tweeted: "I did not use the n-word. Never use it. The Mirror has gone way too far this time."

The claims come days after the motoring show's producer apologised for broadcasting a "light-hearted" joke by Clarkson that sparked a complaint of racism.

An episode, filmed in Burma and Thailand and shown in March, featured a scene in which the presenters built a bridge over the River Kwai, and as an Asian man walked over it Clarkson said: "That is a proud moment, but there's a slope on it."

Somi Guha, an actress who complained to the BBC, said the use of the word "slope" was an example of "casual racism" and "gross misconduct".

In recent years Clarkson has been cleared of breaching the broadcasting code by watchdog Ofcom after comparing a Japanese car to people with growths on their faces.

He previously faced a storm of protest from mental health charities after he branded people who throw themselves under trains as "selfish" and was forced to apologise for telling BBC1's The One Show that striking workers should be shot.

The motoring show has also faced complaints from Indian and Mexican politicians over remarks made about their countries while filming on location.

You are obviously confused and struggling to understand what is happening. Let me explain it slowly for you. Jeremy Clarkson's originally shot the footage with a mumble - the mumble wasn't something that was added in later, it was what was originally on the tape and it is this mumble that everybody is getting their knickers in a twist over. He then reviewed it and he himself refused to air it without reshooting it. He reshot it, replacing the mumble with the word 'teacher'. There, is that easier for you to understand? At least if you're going to berate the man, get your facts right before doing so. But then, if you got your facts right, you wouldn't be able to berate him, so I see why you did what you did and just made some stuff up.

Absolutely disgusting. He has nothing to apologise for, and the BBC have zero cause to threaten this at all.

Actual meanings of the N-word aside, it has become a fashion to hate someone who utters that word. Most African American people would not have even bothered with it if the media had not made a big deal.

I personally think Clarkson did not actually say out that word in the footage.

What's all the fuss about? I didn't even hear him saying the "N-word."   Much ado about nothing again! Blah!

It's a baseless witchhunt based on nothing but a fantasy.  Piers Morgan's probably behind it somewhere, he used to run the Mirror after all and he hates Jezza... Maybe he's snuck back in after the US fired his ass?

No need to beg forgiveness. Anyone offended by this needs to stop doing staring at a ****ing wall being an ignorant moron and actually do something constructive.

I have also met a few African-American dudes who acted ###### when they heard that word on the streets. But when asked whether they knew what that N word meant, they hadn't a clue. Extremely hilarious.

I didn't actually listen to the clip until just now, I assumed that seeing as this thing has turned into such a fuss, that he did definitely say the 'n' word for a fact.

It doesn't even friggen' sound like he said it at all! I had to listen to the clip about 10 times before I heard anything that even sounded remotely close to the 'n' word.

This is stupid.

If that is what happened then I absolutely believe he intended to be racially offensive. The issue is that his original shoot got out. To which my response is, the society you live in has the right to deal with this sort of behavior however they see fit. To whom much is given, much is expected. You want to tell nursery rhymes with n*****r in it, do it at home and not on the job.

This country is becoming a joke. The ethnic minorities are the racists. But that's OK for the idiotic, moronic PC brigade. In the UK It's not illegal to racially abuse a white man or religiously abuse a christian or atheist.

It's OK for a black man to call another black man a 'n-word', but not for a white man.

However, it's OK for a black man to call a white man a honky. Double standards me-thinks

If they find the n-word so offensive why do they use it themselves?

People associate racism with skin color, that is how it is realized. But racism is about hate. That's why people of all colors who are against it, speak out on these things. They are aware of how it is cancerous and spreads. N****r today, K**e, tomorrow, Sp***k the next day, etc. etc.

That is why how a word is used is relevant. The problem is that it "was" seen, and IMO, is clearly inappropriate. I can understand why Europe is particularly sensitive. IMO, the unforgettable human tragedies caused by racism in Europe should never be forgotten or excused and by comparison, make American slavery/racism look like juvenile detention. Just the V1&2 Rockets hitting Britain alone, no blacks involved, would make me have a 0 tolerance for racism policy forever and always.

He. Did. Not. Say. It.

If you really listened to the clip, you'll know damned well what he said.  At best, you -might- be able to make out "Nnninnnrrr", which is not the word he's accused of saying.

Leave your burning torch and pitchfork at home.
