Man the first stage is always denail, making up excuses about it, how you just "had" to do it.

Admit that you did it five times because you just needed the focie, that's the next step, is acceptance.

We are all here for you, say my name is freeza, and I am addicted to focie.

I'm runnin XP as well and I've reformatted once in the 5 or 6 months I've had it. I'd say go ahead and do it that way you start fresh and then after you do that and get everything the way you want it... use Norton Ghost or some other program to make an image of your drive. That way if things get all screwed up again you can put a good image back on and it would only take a few minutes.

originally did u do a clean install or upgrade? if you upgraded hell with it and reformat and install xp the way it should be. if you originally did a clean install i'd try and fix the things.

or, if you don't want to have to reformat and always get errors ( get linux ;-) )

i think a clean intall is the way to go. Not only is it the best bet, performance wise, but you will know that you are working from a clean slate, and none of the problems that you have now will be migrated across during an upgrade install. Just be sure to back up any important data, settings etc...

I format once a month on my main machine just to keep things clean and fast.

Good luck

Do it... the unfortunate truth of Windows (desktop, this is) is that i needs to be reinstalled after 6-18 months, if it is not properly managed (dont install stupid GUI add ons, keep only files/dirs in use, delete programs not in use, dont install spyware, etc. etc.).

Windows has a problem what we call "system degredation". It is Microsoft way of getting us hooked on focie. Once we're hooked we can never stop. It's their way of making us their "customers" always upgrading and looking for a fix.
