.....
Does anyone have problems when enabling the "Bloom" option. It enables much nicer/softer lighting, but really overbrightens the image on my pc. Comparison of it on/off Note: The yellow bar on the right of each pic seems to be caused by Fraps (ran it to take pics) and Multisampling in deus ex. It gets even worse when talking to someone, it jumps to and even brighter image, with most things just being white! Surely this isn't supposed to be how it looks? Does anyone know of a fix? I'm running on a Radeon 8500 btw.

It's an option in the .ini file, I can't remember what it is off the top of my head though. Edit: look for "MouseLagThreshold=75" I think you lower that value to get rid of it. .....
8500? what kinda frame rate are you getting? 20-30 fps, averaging in the high 28s. It's not perfect, but it's playable, and I have to wait till feb to get it on xbox. (pc games are region free) Edit: I posted this on Rage3d, it appears to be a problem with the 8500 and the game. :s Edited December 6, 2003 by andrewfee
syphern
yeah hes not using the extra pixelshader parts so not much of a slowdown on his pc but for peeps who have a high spec gcard with pixel shaders you would experience slowdown. i had the same problem with KOTOR i ran it at like 15-20 fps full detail while some dude with a mx ran it at 60fps. same issue with halo! is there any way i could turn this off for games? i tried nvmax to turn off htre pixel shaders etc but noluck... The game requires pixel shaders. My card can do up to PS1.4, and Deus Ex doesn't do any DX9 effects that I'm aware of, so it does do all the effects. what res are you running the game at dude? I got a gf4 ti4200 and i barely get 20fps at 800*600 :/ Heh, I run 640x480 :( Doesn't bother me that much really though. At 800x600 it's averaging 20fps, and sometimes drops to ~15 which is a bit too low. The pictures on the right look a lot like the style used in Prince of Persia :) Yeah, quite a few games are doing it now, and I like the look of it when it works right. PoP's wasn't nearly as contrasted as this though, although I have heard on Rage3d that it doesn't look nearly as bad on a 9800, like I said before, this seems to be a 8500 issue with the game. sin-ergy
well, you're not alone. unless you got a high end card this game will run like crap :/ i don't really understand why it runs so poorly. maybe it's the physics/ai boggin the system down :/ who knows but we need a patch or somethin.... .....
its the real time lightning This is what I hate about pc gamers: they spend $500 on a great new card, and play all their games maxed out resolution, fsaa, and aniso. They then complain that no games are using the features of the card, and that the developers should be. When developers finally start using these features on the cards there is a huge outcry about the game being "badly programmed" when in reality it's just that the game is pushing the hardware like they've been asking for all along. They then say that the game "looks like crap" because they can't play it maxed out with FSAA and Aniso. It happened with Halo (extensive use of pixel shaders/bumpmapping), and it's happening with Deus Ex. (normal mapping, bump mapping, and the incredible real-time lighting.) .KICK
Yeah quite agree with you andrew, i am glad that iron storm did a good job and I am able to get 20-35fps on all high at 640x480 which is good enough for me as it is a high intense graphical game and my specs arent exactly the best
Hooya
I think the problem is that most people can't afford a $500 graphics card just to play one $50 game. I sure as hell can't. If your budget is only two or three games a year and very rare hardware upgrades, you want the best games, but you want to be able to play them too. To hell with using everything the top of the line card can do. You're limiting the number of people that can play the game at all. I'm using a Radeon 9000 and this game is unplayable. I'm using a Radeon 8500 (ok, it's a lower number, but it's actually a faster card) I get a near-constant 30fps when playing this, and the card must be at least two years old (I got it the day they were released iirc)

You dont need a top of the line card, My GeForce 4 Ti4200 runs it fine at 640x480 all high :). You can get those pretty chwap, plus if you dont wanna upgrade your PC,just buy an XBOC, they are cheap sale now and are cheaper than a new graphics card and it will play it smoothly and actually has some better lighting effects apparently to IGN :)
BananaMan
Those are some weird lighting effects. It gives the game a surreal, dream-like quality. No kidding. Maybe they should rename 'bloom' to 'hangover', because that's what it looks like. :pinch:
.....
Those are some weird lighting effects. It gives the game a surreal, dream-like quality. Yeah, that's why I like it in some games, at least when it's working properly. Here's another comparison showing why I can't use it (the other ones were just shots from where I was currently in the game and didn't look too bad) These are some from the very beginning of the game. Note: it gets even brighter when in conversation with someone, I didn't take a pic of that though. (forgot to  ) The settings are identical, all I have done is turn blooms on/off.
