Keldyn
Yeah, that's why I like it in some games, at least when it's working properly. Here's another comparison showing why I can't use it (the other ones were just shots from where I was currently in the game and didn't look too bad) It's just not working at all. It is a odd, "ghostly" kind of light. I can see the effect they are trying to achieve but I think it has been overdone. The light sources kind of just bleed into one another giving that eerie "dream-like" appearance. Reminds me of those sequences from Max Payne which would always play havoc with my eyes. lol
~Bull}{Dog~
Keldyn, thats a bug that happens on some of the Radeon cards (might be all of them I dont know) doesnt happen on Nvidia cards and is not like that by design. Blooms look normal on FX cards, and probably the other Geforce cards too, cant say I have actually looked into the problem. It basically gives the look of the game more depth. Give me a few minutes, I will see if I can take some shots..
Keldyn
Ah cheers for that ~Bull}{Dog~. Had I read through this thread better I would have learned that for myself. lol I was under the impression it was done by design. I did not realize it was a glitch. I have to say though it looks terrible. Good to see it's just a bug and not a feature! lol
kak
Yeah, I have a radeon 9000 with a barton2500 and the game is extremely choppy at any resolution.
FatCat
Alright here's the deal , Bloom is a feature introduced in Direct x9 it realisticly bleeds the lighting from a light source and bleeds on to nearby textures in a soft glow. I'm sure other cards can do it as well, my 9700 did this with prince of persia untill I disabled AA and the glow was there just not so out of control. here's how it's supposed to look. ~Bull}{Dog~
Ok I only took 2 shots cause the game runs like a slideshow at this res and detail settings and there is only one shot because I couldnt get fraps to work properly.. Anyway, its a shot of the same shower. With Blooms Without Blooms The shot with blooms is slightly screwed cause I took a step back to try to show you the differences in the levels of light in the room. It kind of worked but the textures in the shower dont look quite as detailed. I will add some more shots it a bit. There isnt a lot of difference from looking at the shots but when the game is moving it does a lot to feel the atmosphere of the game. Lighting in the maps seems to be created by actual objects like lights, fires, holograms and screens etc instead of the usual uniform lighting level which we are most used to. -Edit Some more Inside the Academy. With Blooms Without Blooms Outside, using the head lamp aug, whatever they call it..
