ZipLed
After adventures with ibook and windows xp machine i am getting g5 1.8 DP. Couple questions comes to my mind. Is there tv out in Radeon 9600 Pro and if there is does it work ok? Second one conserns memory, is 1GB enough to start with?
kryptonik
I can tell you that 1gb is definitely a lot to start off with. It will get the job done. As for TV Out, and I am pretty sure it does have a TV Out. It should work ok. :)
Elliott
I don't know about the Radeon 9600. Mine with a GeForce 5200FX Ultra only has ADC and DVI. You might have to buy an All-in-Wonder separately or something (don't even know if they make them for the Mac).
DjmUK
I beleive it does: http://www.apple.com/uk/powermac/graphics.html Right at the bottom of the page, on the right hand side table: It allows you to preview your work by connecting to S-video and composite devices ? likTVsb>, VCRs and overhead projectors ? with S-video or RCA (composite) connectors. P.S. You may need an adaptor, but it should work...if in doubt, contact Apple for the precise details, or download the PowerMac manual and see if the info is in there. Unless someone on the boards have the Radeon card - then they can tell you (but you already knew that) ;-)
thetman
"the Apple DVI to Video Adaptor. This new connector works only with the DVI port on each of the graphics cards designed for the Power Mac G5." you will need an adapter
ZipLed
Ok, seems that tv-out is impossible cause i have to use DVI to VGA adapter for my ctr. But i have another question. I have NEC 1300A DVD burner and i was thinking losing the superdrive and put nec to external enclosure. Will burning still work?
frod
it won't work in idvd but i think it will in toast. you could take out the internal combo drive and replace it with your drive and it should work in idvd. i believe the only limitations are due to idvd being hardcoded to check only that ide channel for a dvd burner. I think that Tim or someone else stated once also that it checks for the manufacturer of the dvd burner, like Pioneer or something like that. ZipLed
I found patchburn but as now it seems only work in 10.2. I think that i get either firewire or usb2 enclosure and use toast and wait for pacthburn to be released for 10.3 . Is there any reason which one should i choose? Tim Dorr Veteran Posted December 7, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 7, 2003 Just FYI: Wait until MacWorld in the first week of January to buy your PowerMac. There is a VERY high probability they will be bumping them, or at least announcing a bump that will come shortly afterwards.
ZipLed
Yes, but it will take a couple of months to actually get those bumped up versions. I can't wait that long because this machine is going to be birthday/christmas present :)
SFNE Freak
Oh you can wait if they get bumped up to Dual 2.6Ghz like is rumored. ;)
i3iz
as for the ram, what are you doing. If you are using it for office stuff, internet and basic operations, maybe some iphoto etc... then yes.... if you want to have photoshop and illustrator open and use final cut and after effects and render fast etc... then no get about 2gb and you should be happy for a while. also for an added speed bonus. Raid 2 hdds on seperate buses. This improved my xbench 10 points, which is the same improvement i got from installing panther.
