MoRiA
isn't that just a concentrated beam of sound waves? i.e. the sound waves travel directly forwards (or at a very small angel) instead of spreading out to fill the area

snippet1
yea, go sit in a sunny position with a LCD screen and tell me how good that works ;) remember LCD is very hard to see in bright light... especialy sun light Meh - good point. I wouldn't know all that much - I don't have a laptop, and my GBA works pretty good in sunlight. Time for some innovation, I say!
Whoa
its could be possible remember when people thought flying was impossible? remember when people thought earth was the center of the universe? people just havn't discovered a way yet, maybe in other means instead of sunlight or beaming electric power a lot things are possible (except time travel, very impratical if you think about it)
Maverick[TG]
time travel may not be as impratical as you think. the world of human technology is huge. as you said, people have always outdone themselves. pretty much everything is possible, with time. i just recently read an article about some scientists who placed electric nodes in a monkey's brain. the nodes were used to control a joystick by thought. over time, the monkey stopped using the joystick with his hands and started controling it only with his brain. the idea is so possibly use this for people who are aparalyzed. kingofthecarts
who won't love wireless Power, then people could have a big screen tv in the middle of the street, and with out a cord!!!!
neowin_hipster
Time is simply one, or many, spatial coordinates. better thought of as x,y,z,time. Time is really a position in space.
Maverick[TG]
exactamaly! point being... wireless electricity will eventually be a reality. why? because people can do it, and because there is a demand for it. period. therefore, it will become a reality with time. its a simple as that. im not concerned with how it will be done... thats for scientists and technologists to figure out. Jimmerz28
This would only become even vaquely efficient if it utilized instantaneous demand-pull, which is only (theoretically) possible at the quantum level via entanglement. So my vote is No, not possible. Quite possible actually. They've been doing studys using quantum entanglement and teleporting photons using this method. By utilizing these types of quantum mechanics, they hope to be able to teleport information at the speed of light around the world, as they demonstrated in the laboritory @ CalTech University. Using this technology they also will be able to create the "qubit", which instead of our bits which can only be either 0 (off) or 1 (on) would be able to be 0 and 1 simultaneously. This ability would make processess millions of billions of times faster than they already are, creating computers that could calculate things that would take our current super computers literally millions of years to compute. Take a look for yourself if you think its just jibberish. CalTech is one of the few IV league colleges for engineering, wish I could have gotten in :( QuBits
Brandon
how can it be possible? you need 120V and i think 2500 amps of power in the USA, and even 5V with enought amps could kill you...

They'll (we'll) come up with something to get around it, just give it time. Remember there's always been a time when someone said "Thats not possible" and then a hundred years later its common place. AKA going to the moon, computers, wireless phones, taking pictures without film, etc...

MEMO.INC
I don't know if the topic is for Wireless power sources, or literally wireless electricity. You need extreamly high voltages to make electrons run in the air, and when it happens it is ionizing the air, transforming bimolecular oxygen (atmospheric) to ozone. like somebody said before lightning is a kind of wireless electricty, cause the carrier is not a wire, its air. I think that what you mean is wireless power source. Remember that devices currently work with electrons, wich move by inducing potential differences between the charges, wich is a type of energy called electricity, you can induce it with electromagnetic waves, the waves crash against electrons wich move to more energetic orbits this is called the photoelectric effect, described by einstein (he won nobel prize for that discovery) thats why electromagnetic radiation can destroy chips, and incomunicate, cause they interfere with the electricity and energizing the materials. peacemakers work this way, they induce electricity, but there is allways one oinconvenience. when you transform energy there is always an ineffiency (sp?) that means that some part of the energy is "lost" by transforming itself to heat or other kind of energy. Wireless power is a reality, but you will need enourmous amounts of energy to make the right voltages, the energy transformation trough the fotoelectric effect is affected by the wavelenght and frequency. you can view this effect by microwaving any spoon. Microwaves are very energetic waves, they have a high frequency, and short wavelenght, just look at the grid in front of the microwave, that grid is stopping the waves from comming out the microwave, the waves are sightly larger than the diameter of the circles in the grid. the high frequency waves travel less distance thats why Am radio can be heard farther, thats why the peacemakers are charged so closely, you would have a high radiated enviroment to archieve utilizable power... CANCER ALERT wireless anergy transformation is a reality
