Playboy's top 50 innovations of the last 50 years

Recommended Posts

Just got my January (50th anniversary) issue of Playboy, and had this nice surprise near the back (yes, I actually read some of the articles).

Nope, I didn't post an image... I got the magazine just before I left for work, so I didn't have time to scan the page, but maybe I can tomorrow... come to think of it, I didn't think to look to see what place (if any) the PC came in.. would be funny if it didn't even make the top 50 though.

Goes to show you that girls dig Macs. :p

Huh?? That doesn't make any sense. Unless you meant to imply that the Playmates were the ones who voted on the list (which I doubt they were).

300 pages of goodness - I saw that while reading it at my friends place the other day.

Speaking of 50th aniversary playboy: the 50 years of photography book is in bookstores now.

It comes highly recommended.

I also just noticed that the Apple Quicktake 100 camera was listed as well (at #17). And I have a correction to my original post: the Playboy article was titled "50 Products that Changed the World". Sorry for the mistake on that, I was writing the post from memory after a quick glance at the magazine. I still don't have my scanner working, or I'd post the page that shows the Mac (my scanner is on my Windows machine :( , go figure). Oh, and of course, not a single mention of ANY Microsoft products (or x86 PC's in general) other than to say that Windows was a copycat!!!

There have been quite a number of features and ideas taken from the Mac and placed into other OS'es and devices. FireWire revolutionized the video industry, many Mac GUI elements have made their way into Windows, Linux and others, Apple pushed wireless and bluetooth, and Apple turned the beuge box into something that looks better on your desk. I'd say, as one caompany/platform they've done a lot.

apple has really changed the pc industry in a lot of ways... it introduced the gui which most of use take for granted, started the pda era newton (pda is a coined word by apple, would u believe) and pushed many technologies out, usb, which pcs had before be were useless until apple pushed manafacturers to use it, made firwire, wireless with airport and now bluetooth... it introduced the worlds first 64bit for a desktop computer and made computers look sexy.

sorry for going off topic but i am just saying apple has done alot more than most companys... and deserve to go on the playboy's top inventions list.

I agree in all the things you say, I use apple (my roomate has an ibook the mini-me one), i like apple, like i said, they are great, but the article talks about the mac, not the apple company.

I would agree if you call the microprocessor #1 in the list, but whatever, yes they pushed usb and developed firewire, but the sole mac changed the world, i don't think so, and they left anticonceptive pill #2, that changed the world,... come one be objective and realistic.

I would't call windows #1 either (and over the past 50 years changed the world to god or to bad more than a old mac), mp3 changed the world, cd's changed the world, Mac deserves to be in the list but come on, #1.....

I am not bashing or something, i just want to appeal your rational and objective mind.

well i don't know if we're talking old or new here.

do you consider the apple ii a mac? ;P

if so, it was probably the first personal computer to ever be mass produced and available largely to the general public.

i consider that something that changed the world quite a bit.
