Porphyro
My wife's uncle has been hinting (heavily) that he would like to start learning how to use his computer. We were thinking of buying him a book (or two) for christmas that would help him out - the problem is, we are both self-taught. We really don't know which books would be of value to him, or what subjects we should focus on. So that is the question - what books would you recommend for the completely inexperienced user, who only wants to use their computer like they use their TV or VCR? Thanks

xmr
Give him a Unix one, and tell him you're not holding his hand while he learns. A cheaper option would be to 'hold his hand' until logged in and then show him 'man' and tell him to read it all.
