Mounting Volumes at startup

Recommended Posts

This may be possible via an AppleScript that you can put in your Startup Items. Otherwise, another option would be to connect to them, then drag the servers to your dock and when you reboot, all you need to do is click on the icons in your dock and they connect.

its dead easy, open up accounts under system preferences, click startup items under your account name and drag the mount icons over.

Thanks Wickedkitten, I've been wondering how to do that since I got my PowerBook. I guess I should have tried the obvious solution. One thing annoying though is that with Windows, there is simply a check box when you are connecting a share to always mount it at startup, so I kind of wish there was something that simple in OS X.

IMHO shares should always remount whenever they are available unless you manually unmount them.

IE: you connect to \\server\music and mount it.

you leave the network, \\server\music unmounts

you come home \\server\music remounts

you unmount \\server\music

you go away

you come back - the share doesn't mount again.

Don't apples HIG say something about always restoring windows to their previous state in order to remain consistent...(not like the care much about that anymore)
