Y & N ... simply put, she was captured, scared, and rescued. That's all.

The worst thing about this is that none of the people rescued with her got as much publicity as her.

They were all men. A woman hero is more useful to the military nawadays than a male one, as far as publicity goes. And yes I do agree that the military used this on purpose for publicity, but do you blame them? I don't think it was staged, I just think that they saw it as a perfect opportunity to bring in the cameras etc, because intelligence did show the area was probably safe... but you still need to have troops with guns to escort you while you're IN A WAR.

I think that article is a load of **** though. Even if they DID know the Iraqis had fled, they would still go in with guns and do it in an orderly fashion following their years of training. The military doesn't just go into a building for a rescue unarmed with their hands in the air just because intelligence says the area is clear. That's BS. I don't think the hospital crew has enough expertise or credibility to us to be able to say they were firing blanks and making explosion sounds either.

She wasn't a hero in my eyes. The guy who supposedly helped her out who was an Iraqi is a hero.

I certainly don't think that a woman who get CAUGHT is a hero,

And "Risks the lives" Of other men to save her,

Even if this story wasn't staged, I don't see why she would be a hero,

A hero would be a US solider taking a bullet for another, saving a child from a bunring building or something a lot more noble

The problem with America nowdays is we believe nobody should die in a war (Americans that is). Which is completely stupid.

I don't think it was staged. As a previous poster stated, the military does things by the book. Especially in a hostage rescue. And especially when those 8 men who do the rescuing are SEALS, Pararescue, Rangers, etc. And that is also the reason why Jessica Lynch is the only one being talked about. Elite combat/rescue troops don't want publicity, don't need publicity, and don't have to have it.

I do think the whole thing was kind of hyped a little too much by the media, especially when you have to believe that this kind of thing has happened before and will happen again. But, she was a Prisoner of War, she was rescued, and she's alive. End of story.

I think the only heroes from the whole war on terrorism are the poor Canadians whos lives were tragically cut short by the trigger-happy, doped-up American fighter pilots. If I were a terrorist, I'd hang out in the training area with all the armed soldiers...

Sort of what was already stated, but....

The military taped a rescue. It happened to be a relatively cute, innocent-in-appearance blonde and so more media attention was paid to stuff. Things also happened at a point where rescues / showing what military could do mattered a bit more.

Jon Benet-Ramsey, Chandra Levy, Nicole Simpson, Elizabeth Smart, and Laci Peterson cases happen more than once in a blue moon, but every now and then there's a particular combination of factors that make things more-interesting-than-usual for the media to focus upon repeatedly, so they get more attention and tracking.

Not "staged", but perhaps played up more than normal by both the military, and certainly the media itself.

There was a mention somewhere that she doesn't want her rescuers getting any publicity.

Keep in mind that soldiers have no choice as to where they go and what they do, so, anyone over there fighting should be considered a hero.

I've heard that Jessica Lynch's rescue was staged for TV/Propaganda against Iraq

I don't know if it's true or not, but maybe it's possible, Agree/Disagree?

Useful Link:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/corr...ent/3028585.stm

hahahahahhahha that?s a good one.:blink:k:

So all we did is send a bunch of soldiers out of their way into hostile territory without support. We then knew that almost all of them would be killed. We then struck a deal with some Iraqis to shoot as many as possible but to leave the pretty blond Jessica Lynch alive but beat up. All of this just so the media will make it into the biggest thing since sliced bread. Oh you might not know but there were other hostages that were later rescued. They too were on TV here all day. I guess that too was staged.

I can?t believe there are people out there who believe this crap.

I do agree that Jessica Lynch is no hero but the media made her so. So if you want blame someone blame the media. Your accusations that the Bush administration staged this are childlike and futile. You are only appealing to the paranoid, uninformed, America hating fickle minds out there.

I know this is an open forum, but if I were the admin, I'd limit the forum to NON political issues

that have to do with computers, or technology. There are tons of sites for political debate,

and lately, it seems that there have been a lot of off topic thing thrown around. Bandwith,

and storage costs $$$.

But, that's just my opinion, and like you know what, everyone has one ;)
