TheDreamX
A few of my newer games give me dirty/damages disk errors a lot along with clicking noises and crazy spinning of the disk. It doesn't happen all the time or at the same spots or even on all of my newer games, but it is fairly often and annoys the hell out of me. Anyway, I know PS2 has easy fixes for problems like this and have done research on my problem. I have read and come to conclude that I have a POS original DVD drive made by Thompson. Yes, my console is one of the first few batches from 2001. But can the drive really be that much of a problem? Isn't there anyway to fix thus besides paying $99 for a new drive from Microsoft or getting another form of replacement?
Briandl79
I'd start with a DVD lens cleaner, you can also try a pot tweak or find a replacement drive on Ebay or Xbox-Scene.
NTUsEr Veteran Posted December 8, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2003 you could boil your disc, i've never tried it before but my brother says its worked for him. Bring some clean water to a boil, drop your disk inside the boiling water, after you drop the disk in the water take it off the heat and let the water cool, take your disk out of the cool water, dry your disk off (this is one step you don?t want to skimp on!). And play! I've never gotten a Dirty Disc Error, and i got my xbox on the day it came ou:D:D
TheDreamX
I have used a DVD cleaber (non-chemical) and that doesn't seem to help much. Also, as for boiling the disks, I did this for my Xbox Live beta disks when everyone (including myself) has real bad read problems with them. It worked wonderfully, but I don't want to risk ruining any of my real game disks.
ForeverUnknown
maybe you should just get a new drive. http://forum.xbox-scene.com look in the buy/sell for some. you can get a good drive, ie samsung, for a good price
TheDreamX
I'm trying to get a Samsung replacement drive off of eBay, but they are all $100+ which is frickin' ridiculus for a DVD drive!!! Anyway, I tried xbox-scene, but didn't find anything. Also, I don't really feel like dealing with people on a forum. Anyone know where I can get a Samsung cheaper? Actually, I don't have TopSpin and besides that I do not pirate games, especially not Xbox games. It wouldn't even be possible since I have crappy Thompson drive. I have had zero success in getting it to read anything besides Xbox games or DVDs. Now back to our regularly scheduled topic.

MegaManXcalibur
I get that error on every game I put in. The only thing I've found you can do is keep ejecting the disc and putting it back in until the Xbox decides to allow you to play your game. I've tried cleaning it and it did no good, if anybody has another idea on fixing this I'd love to hear it to.
