ah no, Mac people do not warez less i guess, i voted 'about the same'.

but honestly, the thought of paying for Windows XP has never crossed my mind :D i don't know why.. but i paid for Panther, Office v.X, Toast and some other stuff for my Mac. (and yes, i do know how to get them for free :p)

i can say that i have had less need to warez stuff really.

i was a student developer to get the hardware discount so apple sent me a free copy of panther...

i have xcode to replace visual studio.net and it is a free tool offered by apple...

i have open apps that do many things and are free...

most of everything else i use on a regular basis is free and/or shareware that is free after a few "okay" clicks...

---

then again, i took 10 minutes out of my day to go to a microsoft seminar on my campus and they gave me a free copy of win xp pro and visual studio.net academic for showing up, heh.

just have to know where to go. then you can get legit software for free.

There is a lot more warez available for the PC than the mac.

Don't think so. I know a lot of Mac guys that use warez. Just because you're on a different platform, doesn't mean you can't do the same thing. You can get MS products (Office, Virtual PC, etc.), Macromedia Studio, Photoshop, Premiere, Maya, various games, and yes even Panther through warez. Warez is everywhere, whether you like it or not.

I think a better way to solve this would be to have to polls - on in the x86/Windows section, and One here. Something like:

"On my <platform> computer I have pirated (software):"

"Nothing"

"<$50 worth of stuff"

"<$300 worth of stuff"

"<$500 worth of stuff"

"Darn near everything I want"

"Most stuff I want, and some things I don't"

"I am teh warez master"

Compare the percentages and there you go.

Of course that depends on the honesty of people on the internet...

infact it's wores: we're depending on admitted pirates to be honest about how much they break the law.

they use warez less. those willing to spend the extra money to get a mac computer also probably have the money to buy their software. it's sort of a mac mentality. money is often not an issue. if it was, they'd have a pc because it's more bang for your buck.

I got an iBook because it was cheaper then a wintel laptop for the features I got :p

is there really stuff like osx (?panther?) to download just like all of the windows releases available on the net?

I am a member of ADC so I got OS X 10.3 Panther for free. It came in the mail, but to my home address. Being that I am at University right now, I would of had to wait till finals are over (only 3 more days :woot:) to use it, So I downloaded it they night it came out.

And that proves what? You USED to be a thief, but switching to Mac changed you? Hmmmm...

Where does it say I warez at all? I just feel there is better quality software out for the mac which is cheap (<?10) so I buy it.. and the more expensive stuff (like BBEdit) is worth it...:

i think he meant by you saying that you only bought games for the pc.

hell i still remember in elementary school 20 years ago we used to bring in our 5 1/4 floppy collections and copy each others games on the double drive apples at school. Warez is pretty prevalent on either platform, its just more "underground" for the mac cos not as many people talk about it publicly

"Smaller" shareware apps are probably warezed less on Mac, since the community is more close-knit than the PC community (due to the smaller user base), so you kind of know the people behind the software, and you are more inclined to support them.

With bigger software packages like Photoshop, FCP etc it's probably about the same though.
