Draconian Guppy
perhaps the mobo slot isn't supplying enough power to it. I'm not familiar with pre-built systems, you should definitely check if the mobo is supplying enough juice.
Sir Topham Hatt
Yeah, that was my thinking, although the fan span around fine :/ New one comes with power adaptor so should be okay.
Sir Topham Hatt
So new card arrived today but the same thing has happened, which is annoying! Tuns out it seems both cards aren't compatible: http://uk.shuttle.com/products/productsSupportList?productId=1572 Interface Chipset vendor Model number PCI-E AMD AMD Radeon HD 6970 2GB PCI-E AMD ASUS EAH6970/2DI2S/SGD5 PCI-E AMD ASUS HD7970-3GD5 PCI-E AMD Asus EAH6870/2DI2S/1GD5 PCI-E AMD GIGABYTE GV-R7240C-2GI PCI-E AMD MSI R6790 2PM2D1GD5 PCI-E AMD MSI R7-260X 2GD5 PCI-E AMD MSI R7770 2PMD1GD5/OC PCI-E AMD MSI R7870 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC PCI-E AMD PowerColor HD7750 1GBD5-DH PCI-E AMD SAPPHIRE R9-280X 3G PCI-E ATI ASUS EAH3850 512MB (Singel slot) PCI-E ATI ASUS EAH3870 512MB PCI-E ATI ASUS EAH5870/G/2DIS/1GD5/A PCI-E ATI Asus EAH4670/DI/512M/A PCI-E ATI GIGABYTE GV-R4670D3-512 512MB PCI-E ATI MSI R4850-T2D512 512M (Dual slot) PCI-E nVIDIA ASUS EN9800GT TOP HTDP 512M A PCI-E nVIDIA ASUS ENGTX280 HYDP 1G A PCI-E nVIDIA ASUS ENGTX480/2DI/1536MD5 PCI-E nVIDIA ASUS GTX680-2GD5 PCI-E nVIDIA EVGA GTX770 2GB 02G-P4-2774-KR PCI-E nVIDIA GIGABYTE GTX260 GDDR3 896MB PCI-E nVIDIA GIGABYTE GV-N460OC-1GI PCI-E nVIDIA Leadtek WinFast PX9500 GT 512MB PCI-E nVIDIA MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II/OC PCI-E nVIDIA MSI N9400GT-MD512 PCI-E nVIDIA NVIDIA GTX 580 GDDR5 1.5G PCI-E nVIDIA NVIDIA GTX780 2GB Although the R280X is, the R270X isn't... but I have a feeling there is something else going on here. I bet if I bought the "Sapphire PCI Express R7 260X" instead of the "MSI R7 260X" it wouldn't work. Could anything be blocking it being recognised? I am plugging in and letting Windows discover the new hardware, but Windows doesn't see anything :/
Draconian Guppy
the new card is 270x ?
Sir Topham Hatt
Yeah, new card is R9 270X However i have just found in the BIOS that it may have been restricting it: This is similar to my BIOS. I have told it to look at the PCI slot for graphics, which is where it decided not to bother finding it. That was until I changed the "IDG Graphics Memory Size" from 64Mb to 1024Mb. Now graphics are being pushed through the card, which is great but I don't really know what that means and if it's safe (IE, my system isn't going to melt down :p) I've reduced it to 64Mb and I am still getting a feed through the graphics card, although the first time I changed it, the PC turned off but now it seems happy. Will go ahead and install the drivers for the new graphics card. I wonder what it was :S
