drosje
All of my topics seem to be about OSX's speech technology. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has been able to control expose with speech commands? This would be very useful... *ahem* "Computer, show all windows." the evn show
What's with all the interest in speakable items? Anyway here's the basic process for creating speakable items in safari: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?sto...003011606271216 I imagine doing the same thing for finder or maybe for something in the apple script menu might work. I'd try it out, but I'm in a coffee shop and I don't want people staring at me while I scream at my computer.
Fluid
The best way IMO would be to assign a key command to each expose method. Then assign a speakable command that matches it. Ex: F12 to show desktop. New Speakable Item "Show desktop" with Keyboard command F12.
aaron901
it really looks like an idiot "talking" to your computer to do some simple stuff..
macman87
it really looks like an idiot "talking" to your computer to do some simple stuff.. i would have to agree... its pretty cool that a computer can "understand" you but its not something i would use... DjmUK
I wouldn't use it primarily to control things...I mean, there's not much point to control simply single-key presses with voice. - It takes me less than a split-second to casually press F12 with my little finger. - It would take me a little longer to say "Show Desktop". That would take up to 5 seconds to do because: -- I would have to turn the microphone on for that single command. -- I would have to say the command clearly. -- The computer might not recognise my voice/command (coz I've gotta' cold), so I may need to repeat it. -- The computer would then need some avail processing power/memory to match my voice/command in the database, and then convert that to a shortcut key to then "Show Desktop". Speech Recog. has been in development for years, but it still hasn't got to the accurate non-flaw state that I've been waiting for. But hey, I can understand the use of Speech Recog. but not for menial tasks where it would take you a split-second to press a single key (that's just sad). Now, if a speech command was programmed to do many things at once then go for it, otherwise it's kinda' pointless in this day and age...especailly when we can assign our own shortcut keys to do something a hell of a lot quicker than speaking it. But that's just me, a guy who's been researching into it/monitoring it for around 6 years ;)
