Aaron Veteran Posted December 9, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 9, 2003 I apologize if this has been done to death, but is the main difference between GC and Xbox/PS2 the inability to paly DVDs? Are the graphics that much better than GC? I am goin to get one for christmas and the $99 GC is very tempting as I have no need to play DVDs on the console at all. Bizkit
Well, alot of people thing that Gamecube is made more for the younger group, because they think that there are more "kiddie" type games. I have a Gamecube, and I like it. I have Zelda, Simpsons Hit-n-Run, and Mario Kart. Those are some of the best games around. I heard that iNinja is fun as crap too. Its up to you. See if it has some games that you want, or if the PS2/Xbox has them.
.KICK
That gamecube is a nice console and it worth the money imho but if you want online play and graphics I would look elsewhere althought the graphics on the GC can be nice :). If possible you could try playing on a friends xbox/ps2 and see how they compare in your views. But yeah I would get a GC because they are cheap atm (Y)
+StevoFC MVC Posted December 9, 2003 MVC Share Posted December 9, 2003 i have a gc and ps2. i think the gamecube's graphics are better on just about every game i've played/seen on both.
Starman
It all depends on what kind of TV you have. The Xbox is capable of HDTV, where the GC and PS2 are not. The Xbox also has the horsepower to create the HDTV images, the GC and PS2 don't come close, so even at lower resolutions you'll get better framerates from the Xbox (so long as the developers know what they're doing). Now, if you don't have an HDTV, you might not care. If that's the case, go with the console that has the most games you like. Mike

(on games that are on all 3 consoles). xbox edges out gamecube beats ps2.
Aaron Veteran Posted December 9, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted December 9, 2003 Thank you much! I will more than likely go with the Game Cube. Anybodu played teh LOTR games? I ahve seen them going for around $20 bucks. Any good?
kalizar
hah... now its my turn to give some advice on gamecubes. if you need any proof that a gamecube is capable of producing extremely good graphics, just go to someone's house who has metriod prime, and play that for five minutes. And besides, even if the graphics werent good, it wouldnt affect the system that much, since almost every single game that comes out for it is so incredibly fun to play. For some reason, whenever nintendo comes out with a system, in my eyes, it blows away the rest of them. Since buying my gamecube, my PS2 has sat on the shelf and i consider it outdated. GameCubes roxxor!

Any good? yes, in my opinion, the LOTR: two towers game is awesome. remember the in the first movie, where the huge army went to battle that one dood with the master ring? well thats how this game starts out. You are 1 soldier in that army fighting thousands of orcs. It is intense man. Great game
Aaron Veteran Posted December 9, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted December 9, 2003 It is funny how everyone is saying that th GC is equal or better than the others that costs $70 more. So lets see if this is right: Graphics: At the very least are all equal(depending on games), maybe Xbox topping the others Extras: GC has less? Like DVD, online (can't you add that, though?), anything else? Games: Well, I have found at least 6 right now for GC so let's call that a draw too. Why did my brother and nephew insists that the PS2 is so much better than the GC? WTF were they thinking? Maybe it is just a holdover prejudice because the games were limited at first for the GC? And the greater amount of kiddie games? WTF were they thinking? Maybe it is just a holdover prejudice because the games were limited at first for the GC? And the greater amount of kiddie games? It's social bias. Unfortunately nintendo got the kiddie image from the N64 and its carried over to Gamecube. I subscribe to IGN insider and often read their head2head articles, where a game on all 3 consoles are compared to each other so you know which is the best buy. graphics wise, often xbox edges out gamecube for 1st place, and gamecube takes 2nd. Comments regarding ps2 are often washed out colours, poor textures and flickering. It baffles me why people still choose ps2 over newer consoles because it definately shows its age when you read these head2head articles. It must be the huge library of games that people hold onto so dearly. I really don't know. Why is ps2 still so expensive? Its definately not on par with xbox so I have no idea. My guess is because people are still willing to pay that much. And the greater amount of kiddie games? actually, due to a larger library of PS2 games, ps2 would rightfully own the title there. .KICK
GC has poor online atm, Xbox has the best online and i would say the graphics on Xbox are alot better than GC but GC still manages to produce good results, e.g. Metroid Prime, F Zero GX and Zelda etc
Malechai Veteran Posted December 9, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 9, 2003 I wouldn't say alot better. On average across a multitude of games, I would agree if you said xbox edges out GC graphics wise.

threetonesun
Go find any game that has been released for all three consoles. You probably won't be able to tell the difference between the Cube and the XBox, but the PS 2 will be down right fugly. Also, online play jacks the price of the console up a lot. The Cube is definately the best value, and right now has some of the best games.
Danrarbc
If you're doubting the Cube's graphical power take a look at Rebel Strike. People who aren't Rogue Squadron fans don't like it much, but graphically it's hard to find an equal on any console. The Gamecube supports progressive scan, on those games that are so programmed. I think what he meant to say is GameCube and PS2 can do a maximum of 480p, while Xbox can go higher. However, some of the games have issues with running higher resolutions. Mortal Kombat slows down as blood builds up on-screen, Soul Calibur 2 runs in 4:3 instead of 16:9 and the framerate will hiccup occasionally. Both run perfectly in 480p though, but then so does GameCube at this resolution.
Starman
The graphics on the Xbox are VASTLY superior to the GC. If some of you would hook up your Xbox's to an HDTV you'd see just how sh*tty the other consoles look. Go find any game that has been released for all three consoles. You probably won't be able to tell the difference between the Cube and the XBox, but the PS 2 will be down right fugly. Not when you're working with a 20" TV and composite cables, no. Enter the Matrix on the Xbox runs at 1080i, and 480p on the GC. Soul Calibur was a prime example of the software developers not pushing the Xbox properly. If a standalone PC can run UT at 1280x1024 with the same hardware as the Xbox, you sure as hell should be able to do Soul Calibur at 720p in 16x9 instead of that crappy 4x3. Besides, there are other games for the Xbox that run at 720p that are far more complex than SC. I have GTA:VC for the PS2 and the Xbox. The Xbox version looks FAR superior. I have a picture of it running on my 9' screen. I'll have to post it. Mike
Malechai Veteran Posted December 9, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 9, 2003 i think its safe to assume in general, everyone is referring to composite cables. simply because thats the cables the consoles come with, and hardly anyone has an HDTV
Starman
That's a damn shame. We all might as well be still using Atari 2600's. There's so much more all these consoles can do. God, I can't even tell you what it's like to play Steel Battalion on a 9' screen in HDTV. Mike

And saying GTA III looks vastly better is hard to believe, that game looks god awful on the PS 2, and I doubt jacking the resolution up is the solution. But I'd love to see some photos. jago
OH OH OH!! The Mario Wh0re is back!!! WOOHOO!!! Oh I just love these arguments... Starman...the Xbox is not a HUGE jump on the Xbox, just like Spyder said (and I've seen these same comparisons), the Xbox only inches out against the Gamecube by very little. Enter the Matrix is crap...so let's not bring up that POS again... And again...having HDTV on the Xbox is pointless since next to no one has a HDTV...and it's even more annoying that I have component video on my TV and I can't use with my Xbox. Did M$ REALLY think people were gonna go out and buy HDTV's b/c their console supports it? What's up Spyder...miss me?...hehe...
Starman
Um, yeah, if I'm buying a $99 console, why would you expect me to be playing it on a $10,000 tv? I paid $1000 for my Hitachi 32" HDTV almost 2 years ago. That same TV goes for under $700 now, and you can get HDTV TVs for under $500 from Zenith. If you think an HDTV is expensive, you haven't been pricing them lately. Also, you can get a VGA adapter for your component-ready console so that it will play in HDTV on your monitor. Hell, the Dreamcast had one. So really, there's no excuse for anyone not to get HDTV out of their console, especially since everyone reading this obviously has a computer monitor. And saying GTA III looks vastly better is hard to believe, that game looks god awful on the PS 2, and I doubt jacking the resolution up is the solution. But I'd love to see some photos. I didn't say GTA III, I said GTA:VC. how many people do you know with hdtv? 5 total. EDIT: I just want to clarify something. The GC looks VERY, VERY good on an HDTV. I don't want to imply that it doesn't. If the game has progressive scan support, the game looks phenomenal. The PS2 on the other hand is definitely the worst of the lot.
