0 TheDogsBed
From a design perspective, I would offer the following. There is an unwritten rule in the Photoshop world: If it has huge thick bevels - it was most likely designed by a Photoshop starter. There seems to be a lot of mixed styles, especially with regards to transparency. I can't understand why the frame aound the square box is transparent, yet the inner of the box isn't. The "Quris" has a glow yet the Q above doesn't. I don't know, it just seems a little mixed up - perhaps a bit too much of everything going on and not enough of one or two core design styles. 0 Deciever
yea the borders fade is somewhat odd to see. I don't really mind the bevel but it could be too think in the area that touches the faded border. And what is the deal with that grey shadow think under the halo dude it looks like it has no purpose or if it is part of the images border it does not fit well considering the bevel does not compensate with the drop if that is what it is? 0 orestes
I agree with a few comments here. The goal of designing something in Photoshop is to make it not look like it was done in Photoshop. If someone can pickout the filters/effects you have done on an image easily...then its not well done. Anyone can bevel an edge, anyone can apply a filter, anyone can make text glow.....you know your good in PS when someone asks 'How'd you get that text to glow like that?' Don't go filter/effect happy either.....overkill is easy and ALOT of people do it. Most of the time simple but well done effects are the best ones. 0 Chris Allen Veteran Posted December 9, 2003 Veteran Share Posted December 9, 2003 A nice feather around the graphic would be nicer than the uber-huge bevel. Pretty cool design though. orestes said it right with "The goal of designing something in Photoshop is to make it not look like it was done in Photoshop." 0 ttoastt
I would shy away from using Emboss too much, it almost always makes the image look cheap. It looks like you found a few tutorials and slammed the ones you liked together to create an image. This, of course, is fine because everyone starts somewhere ;) There aren't really other programs you can use. A good way to started with a program is to go around and do tutorials to get a feel for how the program works. I wouldn't, however, ever use those tutorials exactly in something you make. Most things made following tutorials stand out in pictures and don't seem to fit well. There really isn't a way to tell someone how they can be creative. What I'd recommend would be to run all over checking out tutorials, but also looking at sites in general and seeing what style you'd like to emulate. Then you can try and copy sites you see just to see if you're capable, but when doing this you should look at the site for only a minute or two and then close it and try to create it. Alt+tabbing back and forth between a webpage you're trying to emulate and photoshop just means you can copy pixel per pixel what someone else made ;) It takes awhlie to get used to Photoshop (for me at least) but the thing that takes the longest is deciding what type of sites you'd like to make. Beyond that, the hardest thing is continually coming up with new ideas and not designing your sites using the same colors as everyone else or the same layout (Logo at the top in a bar, nav bar below on the left, main info below on the right). Anyway, the main thing is to be creative and come up with things on your own. Once you're comfortable with PS and know what you're trying to make it's hard to guage what skill you have if you only combine parts of sites you've seen. Good luck! 0 Adnan248999
Hey not bad for n00b I'm not exactly a pro either but I don't like the mother of a bevel either :p Looks like you just hand picked some tuts off robouk or some site like that lol. Look at my image below it isn;t too hard to do for n00b but would be good to present you with a test to see how you can achieve the same sorta effect without using ****ty layer styles :)

0 Windef
Thank you all for your kindness to reply, Thx for the tips i will use them for sure. I know the emboss filter is not a proffesional use. So i will change that and look at the toturials. I will post my new dsign later if i think its better. But what i like to know is how you all make those images. Like that attached image with the fire color. Its B-E-A-utiful to me!!! But gonna get back to work, Thx Windef ;)
