Guest Dclanz
My XP cd isn't bootable, therefore whenever I want to clean install I have to use the six XP boot floppies I downloaded from M$. I'm wondering if I burn the info from the floppies to a cd with the XP info, if it will then become bootable. Any thoughts or ideas?
Large
:p If you burn the floppys on too one CDR, make a folder for each floppy on the CDR the exact name of the floppy, so if floppy No.1 is called 'boot disc 1' then make a folder when you burn your CDR called 'boot disc one' and so on . . . . . You can easily make a bootable CDR by copying a boot sector info from floppy anyway, so give it a go, if it don't work you could try writing a little script that would execute when the CDR boots and carry out the job you want done. Go on give it a go be adventurous ! :D
Joseph Zollo
www.windowsxp.nu/bootcd That tutorial worked for me. Hopefully it'll work for you....
Guest Dclanz
Yeah...that's the tutorial I'm currently reading. I have the xpbootbin...wondering if i just add it to a copy of my xp if it will work. I have the other required files. But I'm about to try this....boot from a 98 boot floppy then switch over to D:I386System32SMSS.exe. I think the SMSS.exe leads to to user portion of setup. Hopefully it'll kickin in DOS. I'll update right after I try it.
Guest Dclanz
Hmm....scratch that idea. It doesn't support DOS.

YahoKa
Anyways, do a yahoo search on "XP boot sector" and you will be able to download it. Then just burn it in as the boot sector...
Guest Dclanz
I tried what you said Rudy. That is E:i386winnt.exe, since after loading from the 98 boot floppy my cd drive was E. It started setup but warned me that smartdrive couldn't be found. Then it froze so I rebooted. The setup continued after I restarted and it copied files, but then told me the EULA could not be found and my only option then was to press F3 to quit it. Why couldn't it find the EULA? Vinh
dclanz yeah stick smartdrive on floop too.. why do u need 6 disk for? Get a winme/98 floopy disk and put smartdrive on it put in the disk let the floppy load up the cdrom and all that. type in smartdrv.exe (guessing that is what its called) then cd x:/i386/winnt.exe it should work wonders. This is the way i do it everytime. :)
Guest Dclanz
Thanx Vinh, I'll try it next time. I already formatted the old way (6 disks), but I'm still gonna try to burn a bootable cd.:D
