e-machine recovery disk

Recommended Posts

Hello people.

First of all I want to thank all the people that helped me with feedbacks couple of weeks ago with an essay that was due today (12/09/03).

Second of all, I'm kinda new to neowin since you can see I have only done 20 or 21 posts  Great forum, great people.

I'm searching for the recovery disk for an e-machine 500MHz, I dont have the specs handy, but I believe all the 500MHz are the same when it comes to e-machines :p

I have searched the web with no luck, if anyone out there could help me find it or (I dont know if it can be done on neowin) if anyone hosting a website out there can create a link for me to download it  I will appreciate it.

TIA

It looks like you're out of luck.

You can't really download those kinds of CD's. If you did they would get shut down as it's illigal to post them as they contain Microsoft Software and such.

You can try calling eMachines and request for another Recovery CD. Ususally they will only charge a small amout of money mainly for shipping costs. Sometimes if you have a good reason they may send it to you for free.

You might want to give us some more information as to why you are looking for this disc?

You will probably not be able to find one, because each restore CD from manufactures such as this includes an operating system that is copyright by Microsoft. They are only allowed to distribute one licensee per CD. If someone hosted this file, it would then be sharing that key. In other words, it would be warez.

The only 2 things I can think of that are on restore CD's are Drivers and the OS. Am I missing something?

The operating system that would have come with that computer is highly outdated now. I am guessing being an e-machine and the date, that it would have come with WindowsME. If that is the operating system that you really want, you could probably find a copy on eBay for dirt cheap. However, I would not recommend running that OS. If you have enough RAM, you could easily run XP. You can purchase home edition for under 100 dollars US. You also might think about running Windows 2000, also a more stable choice and less hardware intense. If you want to scale back even further than that, I would go with Windows 98 Second Edition.

The other items on the restore CD would be drivers. All of which by now are also very outdated. You can usually find drivers for certain products on the manufacturer's website. If not, you might try sending them an email or searching on google for the particular driver.

If that does not help, perhaps you could mention why you need this particular CD? We would also need the exact system specs and model number of the machine in question as I am sure e-machines produced many different models with a 500mhz processor.

Fusion,

Ok, this is the deal....I bought the machine from another person for $10 with the recovery CD, because she couldnt see anything on the monitor when the computer was on, I bought it, took it home, remove the modem and "BAM", it worked. :D

Second, I did a clean installation using the recovery CD, I gave the machine to my nephew that at that time was 6yrs old (wrong that I gave the CD to the parents).

Somehow the CD is missing and now there are programs that cannot be uninstall, I get .DLL error messages, and some other problems that I cant remember now.

Anyway, the computer had Windows 98, I know I'm able to request a licence and install Windows 2000 or XP (2000 better since is more stable and easier to deal with network  ), but like Fusion said about the drivers, since the computer is old, I will have trouble finding the drivers on the web.

That's the reason why I was asking for the recovery CD, but you guys are right, I forgot about those little details.

tkyoshi,

I found emachine website, I will send them an email requesting the recovery CD, if they charge a small fee, I'll go ahead and do it.

Thanks for your help guys
