The link in the article goes to KB5058379, which I think is the update from May of this year. The correct update is KB5062554. I went to the following and it installed perfectly.

Things like this should be opt-in, not opt-on. Lack of regulation in a tech safe haven like the US makes companies trample all forms of user rights and privacy
If only Seagate made good, reliable hard drives...
But a cheap drive that has a good chance of dying and taking your data with it isn't really a good deal.
Case in point, they bundle in file recovery services with the drive. That's like a car maker including a free hospital stay in case of unexpected steering or brake failure.
