What was the first movie you purchased on DVD?

That is funny because I remember buying a dvd player and spent a lot of money for it and got Twister.  I hooked it up and played the movie side by side with my VHS copy of twister and couldn't tell hardly any difference.  I promptly returned the movie and player.

Believed it was Silverado, exchanged the first copy because it would not play, same issue on the 2nd one spent 4 and a half hours on hold with Creative lab's to figure out what was wrong with the drive or drivers (was a early computer DVD setup where it needed the decoder card). *(forgot what the problem was, but finally got it to work).

My first DVD was Happy Gilmore.  Then Billy Madison.  Then Big Daddy.

I went through an Adam Sandler phase in college!  :D

On a related note, does anybody else remember being ridiculously, disproportionately excited that you no longer had to spend time rewinding movies once you'd finished watching them? (or before watching it, if the last person to watch rudely neglected to do so)

Kevin & Perry Go Large was my first DVD purchase.

I believe I would have bought it in 2001 sometime from the local Choices DVD and video game rental store.

I also bought Eraser around the same time (and the same place).

Both had the cardboard cases before they adopted the plastic cases we all know now!

My first DVD purchases from Play.com (in late 2002) were:

The Royle Family: Series 3 (?15)
The Vicar Of Dibley: Series 1 (?15)
Red Dwarf: Series 1 (?15)

I had just finished university, moved back home, got a job and bought a DVD player. First film I bought was Ghost Dog. I remember being upset at having to watch the film in letterbox format on my 14" portable screen.

Skip forward 15 years and its 50" plasma screen, Blu-ray and wireless surround sound.
