Steven P. Founder Share Posted August 1, 2014 (edited) If you whitelist Neowin, first of all thank you :) The money goes toward paying staff and upgrading our hardware (which we own, do not rent), paying for data traffic and such like. Now on to the changes (which apply to logged in members), Logged in members on mobile no longer see any ads. A script that was firing all over the site, but was no longer in use has been removed. All of the top square ads on main and forum are now the smallest size (300x250) long ads should no longer show anymore. The tower ad was removed on the news pages. For those that whitelist Neowin, this will result in faster page loads and a better overall experience. These changes were implemented this morning, so let me know if you see anything weird, and do screenshot it (using firebug inspector is even better). Again thanks, and also to our guests that support the site, please consider registering an account even if you continue to lurk! IntelliTXT links from Vibrantmedia have been disabled across the site for guests (they were already disabled for members) the earnings don't justify those annoying ads that sometimes link site elements (links). Roger H. Veteran Share Posted August 1, 2014  (Y) I understand the need for ads so I don't block them on any sites I visit (don't have an adblocker installed actually). I did notice the ads being smaller though.
LaP Share Posted August 1, 2014 All the sites i visit on a regular basis are whitelisted even Youtube cause a popular web site without adds is only possible in la la land. I don't live in la la land.
farmeunit Share Posted August 1, 2014 Thanks. I don't block ads either, typically, so that's good to know.

Knife Party Share Posted August 17, 2014 neowin is always white listed on my side. I'd feel guilty otherwise since i come here so much to read news/wind down a bit! 3 Share
MikeChipshop Member Share Posted August 17, 2014 Good stuff. It's always good to reevaluate ad placement now and again to make sure that displaying them doesn't interfere with the user experience. I appreciate all the hard work that goes in to Neowin! 1 Share

Roger H. Veteran Share Posted August 17, 2014 Glad for the intellitxt stuff. I always have those blocked in my router's URL filtering thing. I'm logged in on my laptop so obviously I don't see them but when I use someone else's it just makes me pull out my hair :p. Thanks for that, still need to keep it there though for those other random sites I visit (link bated! ;) )

123456789A Share Posted August 17, 2014 How much does it cost to remove the ads? I mean without using Adblocker.
SierraSonic Share Posted August 17, 2014 Why does the ad banner push the page down instead of neatly seating in between the logo and the top right buttons when wide mode is turned on?

+Frank B. Subscriber² Share Posted August 18, 2014 The best way to support Neowin? Whitelist the site and purchase a tier 2 subscription via the link posted by Roger. 2 Share
Steven P. Author Founder Share Posted August 18, 2014 Why does the ad banner push the page down instead of neatly seating in between the logo and the top right buttons when wide mode is turned on? Advertisers have guidelines and so do we :P doing what you suggested would mean the content jumps around at different screen sizes :)

Denis W. Veteran Share Posted August 19, 2014 Good move. Already subbed as a Tier 2a (newsflash: staff are subject to ads just like everyone else ;)) mostly due to the ads on mobile. 1 Share
Nashy Share Posted August 28, 2014 Neowin, unlike many tech sites, don't force advertising down our throats. I guess given the decisions are made by the staff, who actually use the site too, not by suits who don't even know what site they're approving ads on.Good job with all the work recently.
