papercut2008uk
I'm new to smartphones, only had one a few days and it strikes me as odd that nearly every app I've been wanting to install has a huge list of 'permissions', things they would have absolutely no need to use. maybe everyone has gotten used to all these things because they have owned smartphones for a long time but, why would a simple app require: Identity - uses one or more of: accounts on device, profile data Contacts/calendar - uses one or more of: calendar, contact information Location - Uses the device's location Phone - Uses one or more of: Phone, call log, Photos/Media/Files - Uses one or more of: files on the device such as images, videos or audio, the devices external storage. Camera/Microphone - Uses one or more of: camera(s), Microphone(s) Wi-Fi Connection information - Allows the app to view information about Wi-Fi networking, such as weather Wi-Fi is enabled and names of connected Wi-Fi devices Device ID & call information - allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active and the remote number connected by a call. and then people wonder how the NSA got all their information. lol, am I just being paranoid, or is there a real issue with installing apps that require all of this? why would any app need to know your contacts and if your on a call and to who and to have access to the Mic, all your pictures etc?
