simonlang Posted September 16, 2014 Share Posted September 16, 2014 ok here is the fix: wget launchpadlibrarian.net/158193365/linux-server_3.2.0.58.69_amd64.deb dpkg -i linux-server_3.2.0.58.69_amd64.deb gives an error, but fix this with: sudo apt-get -f install do a reboot. sudo apt-get upgrade it should give you 2 packages not upgraded yet. chose sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic-lts-trusty sudo apt-get install linux-image-generic-lts-trusty do another reboot try this alone first (if it does not work repeat steps above!): 1. switch to the main ubuntu keyserver: sudo sed -i 's/de.archive.ubuntu.com/archive.ubuntu.com/g' /etc/apt/sources.list sudo apt-get update should work without error messages now. except the public key is not registered yet: do that now with. sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 16126D3A3E5C1192 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install python-software-properties then you can do: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop i am downloading this now, it's 1.5GB so will take a while but this should work. Suburban Errorist Posted September 17, 2014 Author Share Posted September 17, 2014 i gave it another go just to be sure: you really only need: 1. switch to the main ubuntu keyserver: sudo sed -i 's/de.archive.ubuntu.com/archive.ubuntu.com/g' /etc/apt/sources.list sudo apt-get update should work without error messages now. except the public key is not registered yet: do that now with. sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 16126D3A3E5C1192 sudo apt-get update and then you can do: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop yes it's that easy and works just fine. simonlang Posted September 17, 2014 Share Posted September 17, 2014 Well, thanks for your help, but sadly it didn't work too. :| please post screenshots and show the error messages. also make sure each step i have listed is done exactly the same way. i have tried this 2 times yesterday, could reproduce your problem and then fix it. if that still does not work, try to repeat the steps i have listed one post further above. as eric said, i hope you enabled all the reps like you did earlier.
