Paixao
RedHat/Fedora is a good choice for a newb. I agree with you. if you want an advanced distro go to Debian or Slackware.
HellBender
That said I've never done a checksum in my life, and have had no problems. Lucky :p I've had more problems than I've had successes, especially when burning OS's. It's really the worst thing when you have a 40 page paper due the next day, and around 10pm after reformatting you realize that your OS install cd is corrupted :/
Danrarbc
I shouldn't say no problems. The CD I used to burn disc 2 of Fedora was bad, but a checksum on the ISO wouldn't have prevented that anyway ;) Though yeah, after that bad disc I will be doing a checksum on big downloads from now on :)
aldo
Fedora. Defntiley. I started with Mandrake, but the amount of **** you have to go through because it's not Red Hat is unbelivable. The linux community has standardized on RedHat and Slackware/Debian/Gentoo for power users. Now that free Red Hat has gone, I expect Fedora to take over, and if not a new distro will probably. However, I want to check out SuSE as I've never really used it, mainly due to my hatred of KDE and love of Gnome :).
