Not on the list, but I'm on two factor authentication anyways so it doesn't matter much.

I'm I the only person struggling to open and search that text file?

Notepad is obviously going to fall over, but even Wordpad and Word are having trouble with it. I thought Excel might save the day, but even that has a limit.

Try Notepad++ if you're still having issues getting it to open.

But then how it knew the first two characters of my old password, if it was only created to harvest e-mail addresses?

so? It doesn't mean that the emails were active or it was yours, as well. It could be anyone email and those aren't difficult to crawl.

I used Notepad++ and it opened it just fine.

Check the addresses of myself and my family, one family member appeared on the list but it was an old password anyway (which was changed about 5 months ago), so the list is quite dated.

As for my own, two-factor authentication would have stopped anyone from gaining access if my password had been leaked.

The list is definitely older than 5 months. I didn't change my password for my Google account in over 2 years (using 2-step verification security and not using the google account for anything other than g-mail as my spam collector) and it still showed my old password in the leak.

I read that too. The explanation I read in the comments is that other services had leaks a few days ago, and that's what the site was originally set up. Searching for Gmail addresses was added later

Found my account on it but the password was one that I only used on some forums, looks like they just hacked some badly maintained forums and "assumed" that users used the same password for their actual Google accounts.

appears to be just a bunch of passwords from third party sites associated with @gmail.com addresses. not an actual gmail breach.

Two factor FTW!

Mine wasn't on the list but a few mates' were. Have informed them and shared this on my forum. Cheers for the heads up.

Interestingly, last week I received a security warning email from Google about a failed login attempt came from CA...

So just a recap guys, were passwords compromised and is a password change recommended? (I'd guess so)

Google services face outage, making it impossible to login [Update]
      by João Carrasqueira

Google services appear to be experiencing outages today, as account information fails to sync, or users are unable to login. We've been noticing issues syncing our Gmail inbox due to a connection error, marked with error code 2014.

The outage appears to be hitting more than one service, and affecting Google accounts in general. On devices not logged in, attempting to do so will result in an error stating the Google account could not be found. Devices that were previously logged in may be signed out if you visit them, with an error code 500 displayed went trying to sign back in.

It's unclear what could be causing the problems, and Google has yet to acknowledge any issues with its services. Meanwhile, DownDetector.com is showing numerous reports of outages in a wide range of services dependent on Google, including Pokémon GO, which uses Google accounts as a login method. Communication service Discord is also apparently affected by the outage.

It seems that the issue affects Google accounts more so than the services themselves, so things like YouTube and Google Search still work if you're not logged in.

Google has since acknowledged the widespread issues through the Team YouTube account on Twitter, saying the company is looking into it. However, a fix doesn't yet seem to be in sight.

Update: Services appear to slowly be coming back online, and we're able to login again. Some elements may still have some problems loading for now, with profile pictures and some thumbnails missing. Things should get back to normal over time.

Update 2: Everything seems to be functional again now, though Google has yet to confirm services are back online. Reports on Downdetector.com also seem to be declining.

Update 3: Google has confirmed the issues have been fixed and everything should be back to normal.

Gmail now lets users edit Microsoft Office files in attachments
      by João Carrasqueira

Google has announced a handful of new capabilities for the tools in Google Workspace, formerly known as G Suite. The improvements are coming to Gmail, Google Docs, and Sheets, and they're rolling out today, for the most part.

The first notable improvement is related to Gmail, and it allows users to edit Microsoft Office files directly in Gmail, without converting them to Google Docs' file format. Google already lets users do this, but you'd have to open Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides to open the specific file you wanted. Now, you can open Office files directly from Gmail and edit them without changing their file format.

Additionally, Google is adding support for new formatting options in Docs. For example, the company is adding support for mixed page orientation documents on Google Docs, both for its own file format and Word documents. Next year, the company will also be adding the ability to insert images behind text, as well as watermarks.

Finally, for Excel users, there's yet another new capability - the Macro Converter add-on. If you typically use Excel macros and want to be able to work with them in Google Sheets, this add-on can help you convert the VBA code in Excel macros to Apps Script, which is used by Google's tool. You can install the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

You can now view detailed contact information right within Gmail's side panel
      by Jay Bonggolto

Google announced today a new update for Gmail that brings more information about users' contacts to the side panel. The latest change is rolling out to Gmail for enterprise, education, nonprofit, and personal users.

The new update adds the Contacts tab to the side panel. This allows you to view your contact's team, manager, office or desk location, email history (if any), and contact information like their phone number. You can view these pieces of information by clicking “More info” as you hover over a contact's information card or by selecting the Contacts icon in the side panel.

The new enhancement provides additional information about users within your organization, your contacts, and people who previously sent you an email. In addition, Gmail now lets you add users to your contacts and exchange an email or message with them, right from the side panel.

Google recommends having "user data fully populated across Google Workspace apps" in order to make full use of this feature. These data can be populated in the Users section of the Admin console, Google Cloud Directory Sync, and Admin SDK.

This update is rolling out starting today in the Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains.
