Guy's, there's a dedicated UI thread already, move the debate over there until we get a new Windows 10 build to preview with any UI changes.

I agree. Too many rants here already.

Disabling Search still doesn't work for non-bottom aligned taskbars.  The OneDrive app is all the file explorer you need Der.  You can no more remove Explorer from the Desktop than you can Start/Search, didn't you learn your Win8 lesson yet?

That Verge article wasn't bad.  Its pretty clear they have strayed from what we most loved about Metro and not for the better.  It seems more of a death than an evolution to me as well, which is very disappointing.  I'm assuming this lazy design is to woo the questionable sensitivities of (mobile) developers and hardware vendors (Samsung).

Between the (left aligned) hamburger menu, the typography, and interactive elements like the toggle... :x.  Its bad on phones and bad on the desktop.

I came across one more concept for Windows 8 and this one looks entirely practical and will bring much needed consistency between "legacy" and "universal" world. I wish Microsoft had started a "replace win explorer" project when Windows 8 shipped. They could have easily built something like this in last 3 or so years.

I am not saying this is perfect but this is good starting point to iterate on.

That sir looks really good. Its a mix of eveything so far, aero, metro and material and yosemite's design style. Too bad we won't see something that sexy looking, I mean look at those clean green contrasts with the white faded aero, mmm sexy!

Having Explorer look that slick would be very nice.

Given the very basic design levels of modern UI design... shouldn't it be possible to edit color combinations via something like XML/CSS?

Great concept, but it's missing the Ribbon, unless it's hidden in the Hamburger menu? Also, this doesn't look to be responsive at all, which would kill this redesign on tabs.

Now that looks good.  Too bad we'll probably never see it.  :(

It's easy to slap together a concept the looks good and then have it fall apart in actual use. I'm not a fan of transparent menus and as far as the whole aero glass fixation some of you still have, what good does it do to have transparent title bars when Windows 10 has the option for apps to extend their UI into it, like we already see in a few apps. It looks to me that title bars as we know them are on the way out.

To be honest, I didn't really notice the transparency. I liked the "clean" look more than anything.

I don't like that.

One usability question: when the titlebar is full of tabs, how do I move the window?

Yeah, I'm all for clean, it's the differences still left in the desktop that don't work yet. Once they can bring those together I think it'll work out.

See, now that doesn't look like UI vomit. I like it.

^ Kill that transparency with fire. Also the awful grey title bars. And the clock thing. And the three dots at the left bottom corner. And the stupid hamburger button control.

I like this a lot. It takes what is a boring UI concept and gives it some elegance. That is an OS I would enjoy looking at and using. I like the titlebar text centered as well as the minimize, maximize, and close buttons centered. I also really like the glass effect. Now THAT'S how you design a UI. It's like what Apple did. You take the new flatter concept but you give it some visual appeal and elegance and you end up with a simple but beautiful looking OS. That would be an OS I would be excited about using. As Windows 10 stands, I am only just moderately interested because of some new features I really like. I think MS would have generated WAY more interest if they made the UI more elegant like this concept.

I'm baffled with comments like this. I swear, people are just promoting this flat ugly look just for the hell of it because it is a trend. I posted a screenshot of Windows 3.11 and people actually said that it looked good. IMHO, an OS should be functional but also pleasant to look at and fun to use. I think that is why so many people are into Linus distro's.

I can only speak for myself, but the only reason I promote it is because I think it looks better.  Simple as that.

I remember in the XP era, there were a lot of visual style makers that were making flat themes then.  They weren't all glossy bevelled monstrosities.  Even Watercolor, the theme that was in the early previews of XP was very flat - and people were very annoyed that we ended up with Luna instead.

Minimalism has been appreciated by a lot of people for a very long time.

I don't use finder tabs, but if they are integrated with Files, when I will use them more in Windows 10.
