Samsung 840 EVO SSDs suffer from performance degradation

Recommended Posts

With enough money to buy all those SSDs, it might be worthwhile for you to invest in at least a 2 Drive Synology RAID Mirror to keep your backups on instead of SSD drives.

I have played with them, I like the SSDs for speed and the fact they don't need a lot of cooling fans. I also like quiet.

Over the years I have had over 30 SSDs, not sure if it is a hobby or addiction for me ;-)

ETA: I did get all 4 EVOs updated w/o issue today. Good job Samsung.

We have 32 disks in use at my company. Most likely we will fix this as users detect the issue. Not really a critical problem.

But new installs with this disk will need to be updated. Luckily these EVO-disks are only used as replacement for old disks (low disk space etc)

Updating the main 500GB EVO at the moment. It's taken about 30mins so far @ 87%.

My 2x250GB EVO dynamic raid cannot be upgraded as the tool does not support dynamic disks (even when offlined). Looks like I'll have to evacuate the data first, upgrade & rebuild RAID.

some people are reporting bad blocks after the fix

Are we sure these bad blocks wasn't there from before?

It will be very hard, if not impossible, to prove without some pre-update scans and validation.
